It's been 18 months. I don't consider that "relatively short".
Compared to the long-term revenues that could be generated by gambling and marijuana, it sure is. All this COVID ridiculousness will be an afterthought in 5 years (hopefully), while increased revenues for the state will have an impact for decades to come. It’s a much bigger deal.

Guess we need to get the National Guard out to control school board meetings.
Threatening nurses and doctors, saying I know where you are.

Your side fights for career criminals and big government. We fight for our kids.

So you can gladly GFY

Real talk. Vaccines, particularly Pfizer, are showing to lose effectiveness. Moderna will have a finite timeline as well. Boosters at this time aren’t recommended.

Masks will probably be a mainstay.
Vaccine boosters going to happen.

And sad reality is that even if US gets temporary reprieve from vaccines, covid will continue to spread and mutate outside of the US... then make it’s way back in.

Im no virologist, but have to think there’s a real chance covid is here to stay.
It's here to stay. That's why we need to move the **** on. People get sick. It has happened throughout history. Some die from being sick, most don't.

You are probably the person in the photo- a Hard Left activist deliberately looking stupid at a protest, for the purpose of making other protesters look stupid by association.

And why do I think it is you? Because, for nearly two years, you employed the same tactic on this very message board. You would post ridiculously exaggerated extremist right wing posts to make everyone with conservative views look stupid by proxy. It's a pathetic tactic, and you did it for years.
I mean, it's not really hard to find incredibly stupid & extremist right wingers in Eastern Kentucky just like it's not really hard to find incredibly stupid & extremist leftists in cities lmao

That's an inevitable consequence when you sow seeds of division by incessantly lying to people for your own gain.
Politicians on both sides figured out long ago that people are addicted to outrage and to believing that they have the right answer while the other side is ignorant. The constant outrage is a dopamine rush for many people, and the media on both sides also figured out that they can capitalize on this to generate viewers, clicks, etc.

Meanwhile the rich and powerful are perfectly content to watch us all fight each other while they continue to suck everyone dry like a Times Square hooker.

Agree it's here to stay. I could be wrong, but isn't the seasonal flu today a variant of the original Spanish flu? I think covid just gets added to the list of coronaviruses that we have to deal with periodically.

In my mind, once they approve the vaccine for kids under 12, this needs to all go away (not the virus, but the mandates). At that point everyone can make their own decisions on whether to get vaxxed or to wear a mask as there is no more vulnerable population to protect that can't protect themselves in whatever manner they or their parents choose. If my family is fully vaccinated then I don't plan to wear a mask to protect your family that isn't. That's your choice and you live with the consequences (not you specifically, of course...the royal you).

The masks will totally work this time, everybody! Totally.

I know we just had kids do it from Feb-June and mandate you wear masks for 11 months but it will totally stop it this time.

🖕 these people

That’s two years that big government just took from you. Wake the eff up!

You just witnessed the biggest transfer of wealth and power grab by globalists, billionaires and the Democrat Party and you think this will be an after thought? No, you just saw the worst people imaginable discover a way to steal your money and destroy your rights.

That’s not an afterthought.

You're the one messed up in the head if you think violence is OK. What kind of role model for the kids are you?
That parent mentality to punch a ref when that call ball instead of strike.
I may not totally agree with the masks, but threating people over a piece of cloth is insane.

Save me your BS. Your side literally wants to destroy anyone who doesn’t bend the knee. Your side burnt down cities, assaults conservatives, kills cops, ushers in a third world invasion and you think any of us buy your fake BS about caring for others?

You’re nothing more than a useful idiot, a brownshirt who would justify anything done. Two types of people- one who just wants to be left alone and the other who will not leave you alone. Guess which ones you all are?

Hate begets hate.

You seem unhinged and projecting anyone is an enemy that doesn't agree with everything you do.
Fanatics burned cities, assault and demean the other side, tear up the federal courthouses , the Capitol and killed cops.
It's the small groups of loud fanatics that are causing all the issues on both sides.
I'll be respectful and not call you a POS.

Why doesn’t he also require kids to wear goggles in school? “Experts” like Fauci have said if you want best protection masks AND eye protection should be worn. Kids could definitely do it, they wear them at the pool all the time so this would be an easy transition for them. I guess he is going the political route by not requiring goggles…or maybe he just doesn’t care about kids? If he required goggles, sure he may experience a little push back from the CRAZY lunatics, but you can’t make people happy all the time.
I wore goggles and fins all through school. Don’t ask

Well I’m talking specifically about mask and vaccine mandates.

Would you have the same take if you were immunocompromised?
If you're immunocompromised then you should obviously take extra precautions. Two year olds in daycares shouldn't be lumped into the same category as an overweight, smoking, elderly person. By in large, these are the ones dying from COVID.

I have a friend whose kid is immunocompromised and has 40% lung function. Being anonymous on the internet is one thing, but I don’t know how to process the people who say “it’s no big deal.”

Covid isn’t any other disease. Think that’s pretty evident. Ignoring it doesn’t make it go away.
"Covid" has a very low IFR compared to those of other pandemics. It has a .5% IFR likely in America, lower in the world at large, while smallpox, by way of comparison, had a 30% IFR. The Spanish Flu was probably close to 5%, with no regard to age, and the Black Death might have been close to 50% in some locations. Even the original SARS was close to 10%, and how about Ebola? Luckily, that one never really took off in terms of worldwide spread. With that said, if you want to wear a mask while hiding under your bed, you do you.

No one said to ignore it, but we're talking about immunocompromised. How do they manage with other viruses?

By definition they're immune systems are compromised, do we all tip toe around the graveyard because of it? No, if we know someone in that situation, we avoid them when we're sick.

You’ll never be able to convince a leftist that they can’t control everything. Climate? They can fix it! Violence? They can fix it! Virus? Their shot and mask will stop it like a force field!

Need citations to support your claims. Is this IFR number pre vaccines or post vaccines? I see several contradictory reports on IFR.

Covid is more contagious than flu and attacks the lungs more specifically. Comparing many of these diseases is like comparing apples and oranges and over simplifies for sake of argument

Covid isn't as deadly to children as the flu. Again, we're speaking about the immunocompromised. Be it the flu, covid, strep, pneumonia, or whatever, it is bad to the immunocompromised.

Yes, it’s bad to immunocompromised during a pandemic. But that’s nature. Good luck kids!

I base this on CDC estimates on three to four actual cases per confirmed case and a CFR of about 1.7%, and also, on the CFR of Federal inmates, who are tested on a regular basis (thus, few, if any, cases that are not known), seriology testing, and CFRs from nations like Iceland which had near universal testing since March 2020. With vaccinations, it will further decrease. The CFR is the UK (which only includes known cases) has gone from 2% to about .3% in the last six months, courtesy of the vaccines. The Bubonic Plague, this is not.

edit, the overall CFR for the UK is still close to 2%, but, the CFR over the last three month time period is about .3%.

So CFR declined 2% to .3% in UK with more widespread vaccinations. Vaccinations that are now receding. Recent study shows around 40% effectiveness for Pfizer and that will get worse. Compounding the issue, Covid is quite clearly spreading rampantly again.

So, no, it’s not all roses and rainbows. It’s pretty awful honestly
