Besides Mack and Trubisky...

What Bear players will have the biggest impact on their success or failure this year?

Pick one on offense and one on defense.

After some excruciating thought, it came down to Allen Robinson and Akiem Hicks for me.

So many other names crossed my mind on both sides of the ball but I feel like Robinson can help make or break Trubisky's confidence and progress as a passer and Hicks is such an unsung hero on that d-line, effective against the run and bringing the heat on that pass rush.

Your thoughts...(there really is no wrong answer).

Two guys who have the most untapped upside:

David Montgomery....will he be an upgrade over Jordan Howard? Supposedly, he's a better fit for Nagy's offense. We shall see. A healthy Kyle Long should help the run game too.

Roquan Smith... has the benefit of a full training camp this year. Great speed and instincts. Could really take off in year 2.

Roquan Smith is a stud on defense!

Trey Burton will hurt the Bears if he is sitting out games at the end of the year. Because without a dependable TE, Nagy's offense may suffer. Trubisky throws his best balls down the middle of the field to the tight ends.

I agree - field goal kicker and holder. Whoever they end up being.

After how last season ended, I should be burned at the stake for this comment but...I don't think the kicker / holder will have as much impact on the team's overall success than the other position players on O and D mentioned above.

For me, it is a little too early to answer that question and be definitive. I haven't been reading too many of the articles in the papers although the Sun Times and Tribune are splashed with them. If you didn't know it, you'd never guess that the Cubs are in first place in the regular season. But, I digress.

I find myself starting to pay a little closer attention to the NFL when the pre-season games begin. Usually after the second and third games. Then I have more of an idea of what is going on and what to expect. I am just not there yet.

Agreed! two additional thoughts:
1. Like to see a tight end step up. This is the offense's achilles heal
2. Kicker also needs to be sorted out...

I was at camp yesterday, and a few people stood out...

Offense - Montgomery or Patterson. The bulk of touches were going to them. Granted it was a no pads practice a few days before their first preseason game

Defense - Haha or Floyd. Teams are going to go away from attacking Jackson and Mack, so how will their counterparts fair? Floyd is inching towards his last chance of living up to his draft position even with the constant double teaming of Mack and Hicks. One interesting thing I did see is that Floyd was exclusivily coming out of a 3point stance.

Call me a nerd but only high school football interests me anymore. I’m bored with the NFL.

Sorry that wasn’t the question. You need to let it go. Jump on the Bears wagon or jump off.
I couldn't agree more Corey. I am so sick of that crap. And we are still getting it from some of the Chicago clown sportswriters too. The guy is probably still pissed off at the Cubs for trading Lou Brock.

Either you're a fan or you're not. You can't become one when it's convenient and when they have better teams. I may not see every second of every game, but I watch as much as anyone. Believe me, some of those Cutler years were painful...but I watched.

I could very well see Javon Wims second year WR out of Georgia making an impact on the outside this season. Has been making highlight reel catch after catch in training camp. On the defensive side of the ball I think the addition of Clinton-Dix is huge. Him and Eddie Jackson roaming the middle will be one of the best tandems in the league.

Yeah...they should really stop doing the Lambeau Leap.

Agree but I won’t care if they do it when they score on the Packers! Lol

Only the Packers though. I am a act like you been there before kind of fan. Does the name Walter Payton ring a bell? Class act!

Yup
Boy those Cutler years. Brutal!
Here we are coming off a really good season with the potential to be even better and yet we have some so called Bears fan harping about a draft pick we missed. You talk about a fair weather fan. Wow

I wish he was a Packer fan at least that would make more sense. Lol

I used to love the Bears as unconditionally as you. Not only the great teams of the '80s but those teams led by Jim Miller and Erik Kramer. But then I began to lose that love, which felt like losing a limb. The question is not one of loyalty. The question, as Robert Frost once said, 'is what to make of a diminished thing."

Well your either a fan or your not. I don’t believe you can be half a fan. My problem is your acting this way when the ship is sailing in the right direction your acting like they are sinking.

Blue Ruin,

Once the Bears passed on Mahomes and picked Trubisky I instantly became much more of a fan of whatever team would draft Mahomes and much less of a Bears fan.

Cant wait for Bears vs Chiefs game.

I have never "loved the Bears unconditionally." That distinction belongs to some Cub fans. But, that is for another day. Sure they do things that aggravate me and I do not like the owners...at all. For instance, why the hell did it take so long to get frickin' statues of Payton and Halas erected? If it has to do with the Chicago park district as to why the hold up, ok.

I think fair weather fans are just as bad as unconditional fans. With that said, I am not going through the ceiling with hope here. The offense is going to have to click this year. Believe me, if Trubisky doesn't show major progress, I will be on his case. But, the other guys around him have to play well too. If they don't win, I will be just as disgusted as anyone. The expectations are there. But I am not going to sit here and say they should have drafted guy X instead of guy Y. That is silly.
