Lots of guitar players can play fast, few can play with that feel.
This. As any musician with sense can tell you, its absolutely as much or more about when NOT to play as it is when to play.Lots of guitar players can play fast, few can play with that feel.
In no particular order:
-Slash - Sweet Child O' Mine
-Mark Knopfler - Sultans of Swing
-Mick Taylor - Sway, live bootleg Gimme Shelter (think it was '73 European tour bootleg)
-Jimmy Page - Good Times, Bad Times (2nd solo especially)
-Carlos Santana - Open Invitation
Gary Clark Jr ....When My Train Pulls In

For my taste here is who I like---Ulco Bed plays with Candy Dulfer who is great as well.
I love Satriani. He’s very unique because, even though he plays fast, it’s still more about composition, mood, and the way the solo makes you feel than just the technique of it.Just IMO, but I think Joe Satriani "The Extremist" is the best entire album of solos.

This solo from Prince blew me away as it was totally improvised. They had rehearsed the day before and Jeff Lynn’s Guitar player played Clapton’s solo more for note and didn’t leave any time for Prince. So he was just like “ahhh I’ll just wing it.” And this is what came out the next day...
There are too many Jimmy Page solos to list but a couple of note are the Unledded version of since I've been loving you, Song Remains the Same, and the acoustic play on the earls court version of going to California.
Page is the king of tone and knowing when not to play as described above.
+1 for SRV and his many live solos...
I’m a huge Stevie Ray fan, although he’s nowhere near the fastest. Not that speed is any criteria for greatness. Gales is An absolutely phenomenal blues/rock player. If you like blues, check out Josh Smith, Matt Scofield, & Kirk Fletcher. They’re 3 of my favorite blues guys right now. There are a lot of great solo's by a lot of great guitar players in different genre's of music but for my money the fastest guitar player who ever played was Stevie Ray Vaughn. His guitar work on the song Rude Mood off the Texas Flood album is some of the best I have ever heard. I have probably heard that song 50-75 times and I still get blown away by it every time I hear it. This guy, who died way too young, was simply on a another planet when it came to playing. Another one who died way too young as well was Terry Kath of Chicago. So many great players and solo's..Hard to name just one..I like the ones that other's have named, Ronnie Earl, Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy, Prince, Gary Clark Jr, Joe B. There is a guy name Gary Moore, Blues player that is dang good as well, as is Eric Gales. Another young gun out of North Carolina named Marcus King that is laying down some good tracks.
I think Freebird has the most cohesive and just straight up rockingest solo I’ve heard. When I hear folks mock the song, I’m pretty sure they’ve never listened all of the way through.
