Thats messed up. Comfortably Numb just came on the radio and I was thinking to myself "Money has always been my favorite Floyd solo, but Gilmour really does kill it in the last solo on this one." It truly is a thing of beauty. The tone, the phrasing....masterful stuff.

I saw Pink Floyd at Vanderbilt Stadium back in the late 90's.....early 00's. It was a good concert. It would've been a great concert if it wasn't for a drunk guy that say next to us.......he was LIVID that they never played Free Bird.......and let everyone know throughout the set.

For me, out of all the hundreds of concerts I've been a part of or seen, Eddie Van Halen had the best guitar solos. I have seen them 3 times and he has my top 3 solos easily.

Moreover, the band with the best collective solos that I've seen was Dave Mathews. Their concerts end up being looooong jam sessions where each member gets to showcase to a large extent.

I saw Gilmour in Chicago last time he toured a couple years back - he was amazing.

I saw Waters in Yum Center not long after that - another great show - but Gilmour was the better of the two shows.

In no particular order:
-Slash - Sweet Child O' Mine
-Mark Knopfler - Sultans of Swing
-Mick Taylor - Sway, live bootleg Gimme Shelter (think it was '73 European tour bootleg)
-Jimmy Page - Good Times, Bad Times (2nd solo especially)
-Carlos Santana - Open Invitation

Lots of guitar players can play fast, few can play with that feel.

Exactly. Just like some singers can sing a song in a way that makes you feel their pain. David makes a guitar sing and reach in and touch your soul.

For anyone that didn't watch this video please do so. You will not regret it.

This. As any musician with sense can tell you, its absolutely as much or more about when NOT to play as it is when to play.

November Rain and Stairway to Heaven are 1-2 for me. Pure musical gold. Comfortably Numb is around the 3-5 range.

Love Sweet Child O' Mine but my favorite Slash solo in a song was November Rain. He always killed it when he played the theme song for The Godfather during live shows.

Just IMO, but I think Joe Satriani "The Extremist" is the best entire album of solos.
I love Satriani. He’s very unique because, even though he plays fast, it’s still more about composition, mood, and the way the solo makes you feel than just the technique of it.

This solo from Prince blew me away as it was totally improvised. They had rehearsed the day before and Jeff Lynn’s Guitar player played Clapton’s solo more for note and didn’t leave any time for Prince. So he was just like “ahhh I’ll just wing it.” And this is what came out the next day...

That was epic. When I mention Prince as an amazing player and someone tries to dispute it, I tell them to look that up and then get back to me.

There are a lot of great solo's by a lot of great guitar players in different genre's of music but for my money the fastest guitar player who ever played was Stevie Ray Vaughn. His guitar work on the song Rude Mood off the Texas Flood album is some of the best I have ever heard. I have probably heard that song 50-75 times and I still get blown away by it every time I hear it. This guy, who died way too young, was simply on a another planet when it came to playing. Another one who died way too young as well was Terry Kath of Chicago. So many great players and solo's..Hard to name just one..I like the ones that other's have named, Ronnie Earl, Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy, Prince, Gary Clark Jr, Joe B. There is a guy name Gary Moore, Blues player that is dang good as well, as is Eric Gales. Another young gun out of North Carolina named Marcus King that is laying down some good tracks.

Yes, this is an amazing solo. Gilmour has lots of great solos & iconic riffs. Some of my favorites are Dogs, Pigs, Shine On, Time...hell I’m just gonna end up rattling off all their songs, lol. I didn’t pay attention to the venue in the video but I had tickets to the Cleveland show in 94 but my aunt passed away & I had to sell them. I’ve sadly never gotten to see Floyd or Gilmour in person but I have seen Roger Waters 4 times & every show was AWESOME.

There are too many Jimmy Page solos to list but a couple of note are the Unledded version of since I've been loving you, Song Remains the Same, and the acoustic play on the earls court version of going to California.

Page is the king of tone and knowing when not to play as described above.

+1 for SRV and his many live solos...

Absolutely. I love the version of Bron-Y-Aur Stomp from that show at Earl’s Court too.

I’m a huge Stevie Ray fan, although he’s nowhere near the fastest. Not that speed is any criteria for greatness. Gales is An absolutely phenomenal blues/rock player. If you like blues, check out Josh Smith, Matt Scofield, & Kirk Fletcher. They’re 3 of my favorite blues guys right now.

I think Freebird has the most cohesive and just straight up rockingest solo I’ve heard. When I hear folks mock the song, I’m pretty sure they’ve never listened all of the way through.

Yep, the Allen Collins version.

Just posting some solos that stick out from past years when I was really into this kind of stuff:

And how could I forget an infamous one note guitar solo:
