Class 1A
#1 Princeville (10-0) @ #9 Aurora Christian (7-3)

Gambletron has this one very close...
Aurora Christian (Aurora, IL) 27, Princeville (IL) 24

AC plays much better on the home turf than grass. Princeville hasn't played a game on turf this year. Ground & pound vs. spread offense. Should be interesting.

Nobody’s really talking about PR and Phillips. Either the match up speaks for its self or nobody is willing to stick out their neck on a prediction.

I missed that game. Someone told me Marist blitzed all night.
Naz was up on Marist 13-10 until the Redhawks scored 14 in the last 2 minutes of the 1st half. Marist was rushing only 4 with an occasional 5th man from the wide side. Naz had just 35 plays in the game and key WR #17 did not appear to play. Marist got a FG in Q3 and a TD in Q4 for your 34-13 final.

I just think, that if marist can keep nc offense off the field they will be fine in this one. and they do not want to make this one a shootout. that will play right into nc hands.

this should be a good game. this will come down to whether or not phillips defense can be responsible and disciplined. offensively they should move the ball rather well.

the game I want to see is the cg v kaneland matchup. is kanelands defense really good, or did they some good games. and can their style of offense produce against cg defense.

kaneland, Yorkville play very good conference and tested on both sides of the ball.
I am also, intrigued with the matchup between Yorkville and the dogz. same scenario as above with cg and kane.

Your assessment aligns with mine.
As I have seen them both play, my 2 cents is that I believe the scale tips slightly in favor of Marist:
* I see Marist controlling LOS
* Marist should be successful on the ground, which should open up occasional downfield routes
* NC will not likely be successful running on Marist
* The Marist pass rush should force early throws
* If NC completes open underneath routes they will be off to the races --- NC's best chance lies here and glove like coverage on Jackson is required
NOTE: Peyton Thorne has a tremendous pocket presence and is a very accurate passer, he has write-your-own-ticket talent and which I believe will lead to a very successful college career, but beyond his receiving corps, I did not see a surrounding cast on O & D that I believe can neutralize a balanced and strong Marist team
* IMO the game hinges on how well Marist plays press coverage
It should be a good one to watch

If Hersey figures out how to prevent McCarthy from playing backyard football with Love and Evans, this one should be close.
Yes. And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. Not happening.
After seeing both Hersey and Naz last weekend as a neutral observer, I would consider Naz the clear favorite by a minimum of 14 points. Athletically/physically Naz will have the edge in the 1-on-1 match-ups within the team schemes at most every position. I would be pleased to be wrong.

CG dismantled NC. NC would dismantle Kaneland.

I'm not a fan of transitive properties, but this game has disaster written all over it for Kaneland.

it sure does, but they have played a hard schedule and their defense has had to work hard and overcome some deficits. where as cg has never been in that roll because of their offense. and if you based it off of nc defense you are sadly mistaken. and they also gave up 41pts. so lets not get carried away. their defense gives up points. this year has been soley on the backs of the offense.
and if kaneland can keep cg offense off the field anythng can happen

When I saw Kaneland play once this year, I thought there offense was really good but there defense was very slow, I was surprised they beat Sycamore, good luck to Kaneland!

The problem is no one has kept their offense off the field except PR. And the Kaneland defense doesn't look to be the '86 Bears as well. 42 to Yorkville in a loss? Not going to help their cause here.
So I'm going to back up your response since the few times I've had this discussion with go dogz I feel like I'm having a conversation with my 12 year old. He says CG gives up a lot of points. They have outscored their opponents 447-161. That's an average of 44.7 to 16.1 for the math challenged. Aside from giving up 41 to NC, what part of that is giving up a lot of points? And 6A CG took their cleats off 8A NC's throats. It could have been uglier. CG has is challenges coming up for sure, but don't give me the weak defense argument.

NC offense is really good. They can air it out with the best of them. Giving up points to that offense is going to happen (unless you have an exceptional defense and can either rush the QB like a banshee or cover multiple great receivers like a glove - preferable both). I think CG only gave up 28 points when the game was still in doubt? Then a couple of garbage time TDs in the 4th quarter? That’s not too bad in my book.

NC defense is.... well.... average to below average and I am being kind. Maybe I should say they are “inconsistent”. They have played well at times and at other times they look like stunned deer in the middle of the road. Putting up 50 on that D is still impressive though. Before the game I was calling for a shootout - something like 49-42 in favor of NC. I was almost right but had the winner wrong and also scoring a bit more than I thought.

nobody has said that your defense is weak. what has been said is what the facts show. that the 4teams with winning records that you played were able to score 97pts against. that is it. your offense has been able to overcome those points. I do not care about how many points you score in your blowout games. makes NO differences to me. in those 4games you scored a total 140pts. all that is being said, is if a team can beat you it will take keeping your offense off the field.

Two non-West Suburban Silver games I'm interested in today:

Maine West at Willowbrook: what a story the Warriors are this year. Jason Kradman has done a heck of a job rebuilding that program; last week's win over Benet only added further momentum. And IMO they've got a good shot to defeat Willowbrook. WB undefeated but reportedly didn't look impressive last week. Should be close one - I'll go with MW.

Elmwood Park at Evergreen Park: intriguing 5A matchup. Elm Park's first-round win last week marked the first time since the mid-80s the Tigers have won a playoff game. Meanwhile, Ever Park looked solid in dismantling top-seeded Payton last week. Another close one - I'll take Elmwood Park
