After all the smoke has cleared who do you think made the best hire?...I'm going with Mendenhall at Virg...11 straight bowl games at the Y...AD seems to have his stuff together

Mendenhall is a great hire still not sure how that happened. I actually like Richt to Miami as well they really need a stabilizing force there. I realize he hasn't won any really big games but he will get them sorted out.

Big wins will be judged by a different standard there (for a few years) he could make a pretty big splash in the ACC

I like the Fuente and Richt hires. Also like that Tom Hermann stayed true to Houston.

I just wish we could have got in the mix its obvious stoops is going to stick with dawson and Elliot make no change and mitch is going to stick with stoops and his 12 million dollar buyout Kentucky football I don't see no way out with this AD barnhart and his decision makings he will bankruot the university of Kentucky

UVA no doubt...Mendenhall never had a losing season at BYU...fewer than 8 wins only twice...bowling every year...

Miami...Richt is one of the best coaches in the nation...9-11 wins a season...BCS bowls...2 sec championships...one of the best recruiters...develops great RBs, WRs, QBs...OL usually stout...D usually full of play makers...etc...probably one of the best across the board...

Virginia Tech killed it ... getting Fuente and keeping Bud Foster.
I second that!

But UVA is a close second in landing Mendenhall. And UVA gets some "bonus points" for pulling a guy from a school as opposed to picking up a guy who was (stupidly, IMO) let go somewhere else (i.e., Richt). But Mendenhall has hardly been east of the Mississippi River in his career and somehow Richt just doesn't seem to fit the Miami "football culture". So Fuente's offense and Foster's defense may be the best collective pairing that has occurred this season. JMO.

Peace

Meh, Richt is good at Miami, but best coaches in the nation...more like biggest under achiever. He was expected to win the east the past 3 years and there's no reason he shouldn't have. Recruiter..I'm not sure. You can drive in 4 hours in any direction and be in a 5 star athletes home from athens...but then again, you can walk out your back door in miami. He's a good coach, but he isn't elite.

Bronco Mendenhall was a grand slam for UVA. Plenty of better programs would have taken him, I'd think. So weird.
Fuente, great get for VT. It's as good as they could do to try and maintain a tradition of very good football.
I like Kirby Smart to Georgia, the fans would be the ones to ruin it.

I like Richt, but I do not like him at Miami. Just seems the whole culture of the U is not his thing, and there's gonna be a lot of dealings taking place below him.
Clay Helton at USC. :-| o.....kay... could be the most boring hire of the last 20 years. Maybe they're just thinking stability. Just doesn't move the meter.
Muschamp to USCjr. Meh. They'll have a good defense and be wholly inept offensively. Score 17 on them and win.

Muschamp is a risky hire for USC, but he admitted in his press conference today that he screwed up on offense at UF. He is planning to implement a spread attack in order to get more point production. We will see. As a Gamecock fan, I think the UK game will be a big measuring stick for us next year.

Which as we've seen, a defensive minded coach and a spread attack generally doesn't work. Well, it can work if you can complete a pass, which is something we couldn't do this year.

That's what his OC's at UF tried to run, but he wouldn't let them. I understand a coach getting excited on the sidelines, but he makes Stoops look Mark Richt on the sidelines and has gotten worse every year. He's always been overrated as a DC, good recruiter, better than anyone USC previously had but quite a few in SEC better than him. He ended up with a winning record at UF, but it was because of his 11-2 season the other 3 were a combined losing record. He may work out great, but its a risky move by USC, if he has proven anything its he is a head coach on the level of John Zook. But he will be emotional for sure on the sideline.

VA Tech had a clear plan and executed it brilliantly. Got a hot up and coming coach and kept some continuity by keeping Foster.

Opposite side, you have SC who had plenty of time to prepare for their hire and they dropped the ball.

Miami may have gotten the best coach out of the hires, but I question their commitment to their infrastructure which is a big problem with that program.

But that was largely due to Donna Shalala being Prez. Frenk, at least from his comments, appears to be the opposite of her.

Almost all these jobs were kind of "let out of the bag" hires, but Mendenhall was a shock to everybody I think because the thought was he was a lifer at the Y...

Best - Va Tech
Next - Houston. Keeping Herman was insane to think about a month ago.
Next - Virginia - His staff will determine his success though.
Next - Miami - Better hire than I ever thought they would get, but I question the personality match.

Worst - South Carolina
Next - USC

I wonder what tge buyout is for Herman at Houston.
Herman signed a new contract through 2020... His new salary doubles his old one to 2.8 million dollars a year ...he was offered 3 million a year but he deferred $200,000 each year to be able to pay his assistant coaches

Do not sleep on Dino Babers going to Syracuse. The guy is a winner, plays an exciting brand of football and could do some great things there. It's amazing what he has done:

At Eastern Illinois, they go 2-9/1-7 the year before he arrives. He shows up and in his second year they go 12-2/8-0. He took over at Bowling Green and continued the success they had under Clawson and goes 10-3/7-1 in his second year claims the MAC title. He will be a good one IMO.
