Mentions theaters per capita but nothing about weather...

Does the author realize WHY retires started going to Florida in the first place.

NY is towards the bottom and rightfully so.. awful weather, cost of living, taxes.

Read the Methodology under Quality of Life - Mildness of Weather.

It weighs more than any factor but not enough for a state like Wyoming and South Dakota to be #2 and #3.
Florida not having state income tax and warm weather would be it's biggest draw.

Lol why the hell did they put the authors in the middle? That was my cue for "article's done".

The thing with South Dakota and more so a place like Wyoming.. is that those states, I can't explain it, but it's like the people WANT to be in the middle of no where and in the cold. Being outsdoorsy, living off the land. It's similar to Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine etc.

Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, and Hawaii. That's the list in order, IDGAF the criteria.

I live in Fort Myers, and housing has EXPLODED here, You can still buy a place at a decent price, but renting is OUTRAGEOUS ! If you plan on moving here, anything less than 12 or 13 hundred a month, and you're in the hood. And those are apartments, not houses. And don't even think about $anibel I$land unless you have mega bucks or have a friend who owns property there

Good - keep the poors out. All about quality of life. Outside of living on Sobe, I think retiring in Florida is probably hell.

Tell me more about these keys....i need to get out of the cold for a long weekend.
March 2014: Rode a Greyhound bus from Orlando to Miami after partying with brother @Willy4UK . Took the train from Miami Central Station to Dadeland South. Rode a bus to Florida City, south of Miami. Jumped on another bus to Marathon Key at MM 50 right in front of the Publix. Rode yet another bus to Key West and partied my GD *** off. Total cost for the 150 mile trek from Miami Central to Key West: $9.65, but I got $2 off the fare because I'm retired military. Drank some decent beer (I bought it) with the local bums. Yeah, life was good. No open container laws.

Been there. Done that. Earned the GD T-shirt.

Someone a little mad they can't afford to move?

He's no longer in the keys. He threw away his entire life on a lark and headed to Tampa with some wench that promptly started screwing every Haitian refugee she could lay her nipples on as soon as he unpacked. Poor rube... er, rouge.
Im actually back in KW bub.

No, dickwad, I lived in Hillsborough Co for two years. I've done my time. Tampa, Jax, Miami-(Dade) are shitholes with more stripclubs than schools. That's OK, the schools are ****** so that works out. Enjoy your free Disney tix, no sales tax and a plentiful crop of sex offenders.

Actually agree with catgotmytongue and think most places on mainland Florida suck. Just a really big fan of island life to be honest.

It depends. I also lived down there for a time. Major metros (Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa-St. Pete, Jax, Orlando) qualify as total suckage, depending on the area one resides.

Various "jewels" are found in St. Augustine, Gainesville, Pensacola, New Smyrna Beach and, of course, Key West. I can name others. FL offers great places as well as shitholes.

I guess it depends on your outlook. South Florida (Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) is one of the most attractive places to live in the country - if you have a good job. But if you are a derelict, then I guess I can see how you would not like it. I mean - trailer parks? Greyhound buses? If that's what you're into you should stay in Ky or North Florida.

Charleston, SC USED to be great. I'll probably bail once I retire. Our population has doubled in 20 years and you can tell now...because traffic sucks 24/7 instead of just rush hour. Funny thing is, Savannah, GA is now the new go-to place for folks bailing out of Chucktown. Developers are killing the goose that lays the golden eggs...the charm and beauty of Charleston. If there is ANY available real estate on the peninsula, there's a developer trying to build a hotel!

Charleston used to be my favorite city in the south. Went there for years. Like you said, now it is so crowded, over developed, it's not really worth the hassle or aggravation of all the traffic and constant construction around to go there. There are plenty of other options

I returned from Orlando this past Monday evening.

Lakeland-area 55+ trailer parks offer many outstanding deals. Cheaper finds are available near Sebring and Frostproof. North FL around Gainesville is okay, too.
I grew up near frostproof. Housing in that area was significantly cheaper than lexington. Not sure about these days.
