Could be that we need to pull NIL money from Garrison to afford Alvaro, could be that Alvaro doesn't want to commit when we have JQ, Moreno, Garrison, and some combo forwards.

Yeah, I obviously have no idea. But I don't think Quaintance, Garrison or Moreno have any business playing PF for UK unless it's "break only in case of emergency" deal.
this is more realistic than most people think imo. JQ will be special if he plays. We need to hang onto BG if possible.
He's familiar with the system, but he doesn't appear to be a good fit.
He can't play the role of Amari Williams, he's just not capable of it and he doesn't have the mindset for it. He also can't pass like Amari can.
He also doesn't have the skills of an Andrew Carr, so he would really hurt us at the 4.
He could develop into one of those roles, but I bet he's not going to want to be patient enough to play as a backup until he is ready.
Do we have anyone who can play like amari? And JQ someone said he can’t play the 4 I beg to differ especially in popes offense.
How do you even know we will be utilizing the center position the exact same way and as much as we did next year? You think Pope is never going to change his system over time or for the personnel he has available. That's kind of short sighted.
UK has all the NIL money needed. They don’t need to take from anyone.

JQ will play the Amari role. Slightly less effective as a passer, much better slasher, miles better defender, has a Jumpshot although his efficiency isn’t great, significantly more athletic and a far better rebounder. Think of Amari but supercharged.
We don't, which is probably why CMP is recruiting over BG.
But JQ, from everything I have read, can play Amari's role, maybe better that Amari did.
It's pretty obvious to everyone that Pope is going to play a 5 out offense with a point-cenyer at the top of the key.

Doesn't look like JQ knows layups, just dunks. Too many times last year Amari didn't go up with authority and dunk the ball.

He's done it for sure. But his system is evolving and last year we were extremely limited at PG for much of the year. All I'm saying is don't automatically assume we're playing exactly the same way moving forward.
Yeah we still did quite a bit. I rewatched the Duke game again last night while going to sleep. First play of the game was Amari pivoted high post with zoom action. Expect JQ in the same role as Amari but simply an upgrade. You were right though that our zoom action isn’t exclusively ran out of the five. We ran it from other positions also but mainly the five
Bingo. Exactly how I feel about BG. Its not his physical maturity that concerns me.
He played that same way when we had Lamont fully healthy and why wouldn't he? That point-center offense is extremely hard to defend.

I like what Pope does with the 5 out high. If the opposing big comes out to guard him, it opens up the inside. If the other big stays home, our big can see and pass over smaller guys. But it takes a good passing big to make it work. I can see using it with a tall 4 that can beat his man off the dribble too.
Again, that was the past. It might be different to a degree in the future. We simply don't know.
This. But I'll be very happy if we get Alvaro! If BG chooses to leave because of that that's on him.

If Pope really wants Alvaro, which he most likely does, he needs a way to exit BG the right way. And if BG and his people are testing the waters, even if only to get more $ from UK, it's the opening Pope needs. If all this is true and plays out this way, I would be more than ok with it. Alvaro is highly skilled and exactly what we need.
Maybe one of the Florida bigs goes NIL shopping, I would take a chance on a few of those guys.

If Pope has plans beyond BG, the "right way" would be to just be upfront and honest..and tell him to hit the road and enter the portal. I don't think there is any mystery to how it should be handled. I hope we keep BG.
I don't understand what about Pope's offense makes it ideal for a PF that can't shoot.
We saw the no- perimeter-threat guy work ok at Center due to his ball-handling and passing skills, but not at PF. Quaintance appears to have skills that could also make him a good no-perimeter-threat Center, but you certainly won't have an offense that spreads the floor with him at PF and either Garrison or Moreno at Center. And Garrison, despite being a significantly better shooter from the perimeter as well as the FT line than Quaintance, is definitely not going to spread the floor either.
It's always being said by fans that this or that player "can play" all these positions, but the question remains is that best for the team? I don't like the idea of trying to jam square pegs into round holes.
You could be right. I'm just going off who I see him bringing in. It looks to me like he's loading up to do the same thing.

Never said anything about Amari bringing the ball up. This conversation is about Amari running the offense from the top of the key.
Who cares about bringing the ball up the court, that has nothing to do with runming a half vourt set offense.
I think JQ will be able to hit open 3s at Kentucky. He will have the spacing and he is a Swiss Army knife nightmare matchup at the 4. There’s more than one way to skin a cat and JQ is a defensive and offensive nightmare for opponents. We will have to do some things difference to enhance our defense. I completely disagree that he’s a center. He’s a Pf in the nba and will have to develop a shot ala pj Washington or Patrick Patterson. The guy was projected as top 5. I doubt a guy who is 6’9” coveted by the nba can’t shoot. And I just can’t use freshmen numbers for an injured player and a guy who probably only took a handful of shots. Best for the team is a Pf who is a potential superstar. I wouldn’t be surprised if he saw time at the 3. I don’t think he’d go to a school to play center. Definitely leave a big chunk of his skill set behind doing that.
Garrison could easily become a Freshman T.Jones if he would focus heavily on ball handling vs 1v1 defense. Being able to face up and jab step, straight line drive bully ball to the paint to finish a dunk or jump stop floater would make him a tough matchup for most 4s… I think he could easily shoot 35% from 3 to keep teams from sagging
I agree, a lot to work with. Just needs time. Bigs take longer to develop. Remember Nick Richards? People were dogging him bad, until his senior year when he blew up.
Him playing the five gives him more responsibility and more ability to showcase his skills, not less. Don’t think of it as positions, because those are mostly meaningless in Pope’s offense. Think of him as orchestrator, like Amari was. That’s a role that asks for all the responsibility you could want.
Yeah but that was because all our points were injured and Pope thought it was easier for Amari to dribble up court versus another center than for Brea against a 3 or Perry vs a point. When someone else brought the ball up court they then gave the ball to Amari up top. I don't see JQ bringing the ball up the court because we won't need him to but he'll often start the half court offense and he can drive and finish better than Amari. Also, JQ shoots a set shot from three point range so he'll be able to work on that during the time his running and jumping is restricted.
