Last night's performance by our O-line was impressive, but UCLA is not a Big 10 O-line. I think we are still a few recruits away from having the talent to push the Big around. But, last night was a great building block.

I doubt that anyone here thinks NU suddenly has great offensive line or a dominant running game. But the bowl game was further evidence that its ground game can be effective when there's a genuine commitment to running the ball, and when pass protection isn't the sole criterion for determining who gets playing time at RB.

The bowl game has also given us a nice break from those lectures suggesting that anyone who thinks running the ball is important must by stuck in the 1970s and just doesn't understand anything about modern-day football. I'm sure they'll return soon enough, but for now I'm enjoying the silence.

from the tv screen, it looked like UCLA was very much undersized on their D-Line.. they probably had good speed, but lacked in brute stopping power.. compared to the rest of the Big10, I'm not sure we stand out on either offensive or defensive lines.. average for the league is my guess.

They are designed to stop all the spread offense teams with smaller quicker O lines in the Pac 12. Stanford with their stouter line gave UCLA fits and no doubt DL and Riley designed their game plan accordingly. Dropping back to pass 30 times would have fed right in to UCLA's defensive wheel house. The best way to attack speed is to run right at it and we did. A+ game plan.

Looked like they had one DT we had to be somewhat concerned about.

guttie lost their best 2 dlineman and all world linebacker ...not nearly the team they were earlier this year.
Btw, Herks fans don't know this but that Stanford Oline is going to destroy their Dline worse than MichSt did on that 52 play 80 minute drive they had to win the game in Big 10 title game.
Stanford Oline is big , athletic, expirenced , and damn good. Any qb play and no stupidity by Shaw and Indians win this game handily, if not a rout. Herks O is too punchless to keep up with Indians.
