the Big 10 would add Notre Dame.

But it probably makes too much sense, especially when you're dealing with arrogant Cathiolics that think that they are too good for the Big 10, and belong in the Big East.

If ND did join the Big 10, I think it would kind of hurt the Big East long term because I think that they are kind of counting on/hoping that ND joins them at some point.

If they took Iowa State, then Arkansas could go to the Big 12, the SEC could pick up Tulane to replace them and then we could all be happy.

But if they did, I'd first approach North Carolina if I were the SEC. That would add the big Charlotte and Raleigh TV markets and improve the league in basketball, baseball, and in most Olympic sports. I think it's kind of a long shot to get them, but they'd bring a LOT to the table if the SEC could get them. More realistic candidates would be schools like GA Tech or Clemson.

In other words, they could actually schedule decent people. They are having to schedule more and more people like Nevada because all of the conferences are eating up non-conference slots. They are already playing so many Big East teams to cover this.

I think that there could possibly be a deal where they could keep their TV contract and possibly get TV money from the conference as well. Their darn TV contract is the biggest obstacle that keeps them from joining a conference.

They also wouldn't necessarily have to win 9 games to go to a BCS bowl. If they win the Big 10 Championship Game, they go to a BCS game. And going back to the conference schedule- playing a tougher schedule will prepare them for a BCS game better.

The way things are going, I think that it's inevitable that they are going to have to join a conference.

Those New Orleans trips are by far my favorite road games I have been too. And considering our curse against Ark. on the road, I would be ecstatic. Wishful thinking though.

Easy conference win to! It's not like the SEC needs another football jaugernaught. The East has Vandy, we can have Tulane in the West AND we don't have to ever go to Arkansas ever again! How much better can it get?

any proposals he lists off will include a trip each year to New Orleans no matter what. He has had some solid ideas but he had one awful one in there somewhere.

then the Big12 could pick up some random former SWC team.
If the SEC were to replace anybody, it'd be a Clemson or Florida State for Arkansas.

Trips to New Orleans are fun. Reason or not.

Trips that involve MSU football/baseball and New Orleans = even more fun.

If ND can keep their contract with NBC and join the Big 10, NBC ratings would go sky high and that's good for ND. I think in that senerio it is a Win Win.</p>

the only one plan you listed off that I disagreed with was the one giving up a home game for a trip to New Orleans each year. Outside of that I'm all for getting rid of Arkansas and replacing them with Tulane. That way we would know we aren't finishing last in the West every year in football. Also we wouldn't have to worry about playing in Arkansas ever again since we lose on the road there in every sport.

I never really thought about them having trouble scheduling solid teams. But, if that's the case, I could see NBC wanting them to be able to improve the opponent situation so they don't have to tank on their TV ratings - should they be able to join a conference and keep the contract.

Would the SEC prefer to add a team that fits into the West? Tulane obviously fits and FSU is really just on a line with UT and UK so they'd fit. What if we added an east coast team? Would UK just get moved west? Would anyone really care? I guess that could mean we'd get a different annual east opponent. The new team? South Carolina?

is if the Big 10 took from the Big 12, three schools would begin to openly lobby the Big 12 for inclusion, with Arkansas being rumored.

Texas Christian. A former SWC team that has been strong in football for some time
Houston. A former SWC team with a good tradition with a huge market.
Colorado State. A dark horse, but they would want it.

I feel like TCU would be chosen. If the Pac 10 decided to snatch up Utah and BYU as rumored, the MWC would go from de facto BCS conference to horrible.

My thought is that the Big Ten is going to go hard for Notre Dame, but others that could make sense include:

Iowa State
Cincinnati (good basketball tradition, beginning to be strong football - what hurts them is that they just jumped conferences a few years back)
Pittsburgh (see Cincy)
Syracuse

If this becomes a domino effect, you could see things like:
Florida State, Georgia Tech or Clemson to the SEC
South Florida or Central Florida to the ACC
Louisiana Tech, Troy to Conference USA
