How can this be? OK, so Schiano may suck as a recruiter but is RU potential to recruit really behind NW, Purdue, Indy,Illinois, Minny?

Eight of 247Sports' national recruiting analysts ranked the new Big Ten programs by potential on the trail.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (average position of 1.00)

2. USC Trojans (2.38)

3. Michigan Wolverines (2.75)

4. Oregon Ducks (4.00)

5. Penn State Nittany Lions (4.88)

6. Wisconsin Badgers (7.25)

7. Nebraska Huskers (7.50)

8. UCLA Bruins (7.75)

9. Washington Huskies (8.75)

10. Michigan State Spartans (9.75)

11. Iowa Hawkeyes (11.38)

12. Minnesota Golden Gophers (12.88)

13. Maryland Terrapins (13.00)

14. Illinois Fighting Illini (13.25)

15. Purdue Boilermakers (13.50)

16. Indiana Hoosiers (16.75)

17. Northwestern Wildcats (17.00)

18. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (17.25)

Just a silly analysis once you get below Washington the profiles of the remaining teams are relatively similar. The primary recruited player is primarily a three star with an occasional 4 star and random 2 star. Rutgers does have as much if not more of a national brand than those remaining teams below The Huskies. The real issue is the teams from the Huskies up that are already substantially out recruiting the bottom half of the league. It could very likely widen the recruiting gap between the top half of the league and the bottom half.

Actually, Schiano is a very good recruiter. Don’t think that is even in question really.

Evidence? W-L Record, on field performance, word of mouth, perception, in state top 10- to what do you attribute your “ actually”?

This analysis is likely based on on field results and recruiting results, so it’s not a surprise. Need to improve both, and then we will show better in this analysis.
If it were then Rutgers would be ranked about 8th given last 4-5 years of ranking results. And that’s during a period of us sucking. Imagine if we improved results, the actual potential is greater given the NYC metro area. Mayne we are 10 with USC and UCLA included.

It’s not only recruiting results, it’s our on field results too. Probably influenced more by on field results.

Maybe they should review their own rankings. For the 2021-2024 classes, they would find RU is probably a middle/lower middle of the pack recruiting school. Classes have been in the 8-11 range.

No it’s based on Recruiting ranks and we are falling miserably. Have you seen how the ‘22 and ‘23 classes ranked ?

Schianos first class was 2021 coming into the BIG. They are now juniors. You guys are calling for his head and his first class after a dumpster fire in barren part of town are juniors. You’re nuts .

Please don’t tell me the portal makes it easier. Everyone has access to payers in the portal. And they aren’t usually 5 star starting juniors from Ohio state or Alabama.

The issue is we don’t have access to the best players in the portal because there isn’t enough NIL support.

For starters, Indiana has to be lower. They're in a smallish state that is heavily mined by Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan and always will be. Rutgers is in a larger state with no in-state competition.
Yet Indiana's managed to go 5-4 vs RU since they started playing each other in 2014

I wouldn’t throw too many roses at HC Schiano’s recruiting yet.

We literally have no recruited skill position players looking to be impact players this year - other than RB.
WR, TE and potentially QB seem to be huge misses so far in Schiano 2.0.

Recruiting has improved markedly. He recruited a 4 star QB with great promise that has yet to show. If we take a step forward on the field, it will improve more. He’s also recruited Surace.

He is fine as a recruiter , we are Rutgers and we have issues to overcome in football perception. Flood /ash killed us for years and put us in a hole. We are climbing out , we see the light.

Just draw a 200 mile radius around New Brunswick and do the same around the other college campuses. You could argue RU is top 2-3 in fertile recruiting grounds.

RU just has to show results on the field to get things flowing.

Ranking Rutgers last and OSU first is anything related to football is never a bad move. It's a safe bet and you won't get critized by the majority of people.

We are not “ falling “ genius. Have you looked at our 24 class ranking ? Enjoy the climb . Go RU! Haters go home.
Reality check. Classes have ranked on the bottom of the B1G . Add in that our Transfer Portal ranking was near the bottom of P5 and combine that with our on field coaching performance the chance for success is slim.
And Clown I have donated more time and money to the RU football program than your sorry arse.

Classes have ranked 8,9,12 and now 7. Except for last years class, it’s middle of the big ten.
