Purdue's biggest weakness is their toughness (i.e. lack thereof). When the refs act like their bodyguards, they do more harm than good. This is why the top Big 10 teams have struggled recently in the Tournament.

I meant it metaphorically. A big reason they wilt in the tournament is that they are coddled all season in the Big 10 games by the refs. Watch Edey foul out in a first round game and not know what happened.
The whole “big ten teams struggle in the tournament because of the refs” is such an awful take…do people not realize that NCAA games will feature many of these same refs? And they’ve been doing games in these conferences that somehow won’t struggle when seeing them?

4 fouls in 14 seconds two on Cliff both on Edey just catching the ball. Neither a foul! Has to go to bench 7-0 run that was the game. Refs do that to Edey on all of the push offs when they lob it in. (Wolfe play most obvious) we go on similar run. They made 6 more FT than we even attempted. Refs need their Fan Duels accounts checked.

Purdue was undefeated in the non conference. Wins over Marquette Gonzaga West Virginia Duke. Frankly, it is better for this Purdue team when the refs call it closer.
What about the 15 or so fouls that weren’t called on us in the first half when we were clobbering their guys, especially Edy, anytime they came close to the lane? Didn’t think of it that way did you? Clearly you have never played a game in your life. So let me educate you because YOU ARE NUTS. What about those 15 calls as you point out in the first half? Why not call those?? Yes the game was physical early and yes they could have been called and yes I did realize that BUT the refs decided they were going to let them play so that’s the game everyone had to adjust too. So as an athlete I now know how the game is being called so i know what I can and can not do. If they decided to call it tight early then no problem that’s the game and we have to adjust and Cliff has to play off Edey because the game is going to be tight . They did not though did they . They let us both play. Edey shoving inside as well. They then go 13 min in the second half calling the game the same way letting EVERYONE alien and grab. Out of no where they decide they are going to switch and call 4 quick fouls. Completely different the the first 33 min THATS bad on the refs and you will not find one player to tell you other wise. You think Cliff on the bench with Edey on the floor was not a big deal ??? ARE YOU NUTS . They made 19 FT we only shot 13 . 2 unnecessary calls back to back on the same player that had no real impact on what was happening on the court out of nowhere is really really bad reffing
Any time any posters starts calling out our players to win an argument they just lose me. That’s just awful and self serving. The rest of your post is fine even if I don’t agree but stop calling out our players to prove a totally unimportant point and defend really bad reffing. I say this to all fans. It makes the board a worse place.
The team played well enough to win. So did Purdue.

There were a slew of reasons we lost NOT named “the officials.” That being said, the two players, I pointed out, cam, and Derek, had phenomenal games otherwise, and we all know that. I loved watching those 2 play yesterday!
11-4 was the foul difference for the first half. By then we had 4 out of the 5 starters with 2 fouls!

You you argue specific calls in any one game, but the pattern is obvious. Blue bloods get more calls and more importantly, they get them when they need them. Heck, we actually won a few, including v. Purdue when the calls were stacked. We have learned how to fight through this, but Purdue et al, have not and that's why they wilt in March. Any objective viewer can see that Edey gets calls, yet Painter still cries for him instead of teaching him how to play through it.
Every time Edey made contact with anyone he complained to the refs. It's his MO and sooner or later he gets the call.
