Big 12 Conference Announces 2016 Preseason Football Poll

Irving, Texas – (July 14, 2016) - After winning last year’s conference title and making an appearance in the 2015 College Football Playoff semifinals, Oklahoma has been chosen as the favorite to win the 2016 championship. The Big 12 football preseason poll is voted on by media representatives who cover the league.

This year marks the fourth since 2011 in which the Sooners topped the preseason rankings. They have captured a Big 12-record nine league titles.

OU garnered 24 of 26 first-place votes and tallied 258 points. TCU picked up the other two first-place votes and totaled 222 points. Oklahoma State, Baylor and Texas rounded out the top five followed by Texas Tech, West Virginia, Kansas State, Iowa State and Kansas.

The Sooners welcome back 13 starters from offense and defense, including junior quarterback Baker Mayfield. He was the Conference’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after earning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year accolades at the conclusion of the 2015 campaign.

Ouch in Motown! I was expecting a fifth place preseason ranking, but both Texas and TT are well ahead of us. Interesting to see how Baylor has fallen (already). Again, surprised with how Texas and the Red Raiders have moved up.

That's a lot of improvement from Dana, he has made WVU irrelevant in a few short years. I don't hear anyone talking about WVU anymore, like they ran into the Bermuda triangle

If you only finish in the top half of a ten team FB conference once, there's not much to talk about.

We must play at both Texas and Texas Tech . . . unless we can win on the road this year, the preseason projections might be right on :(

Where are the idiots talking about a preseason top 25 ranking? WVU is in great shape to be a sleeper! I believe WVU may very well suprise some folks this year.

might finish 7th in the league but wow will we be the best flag football team in the state. lots of points and more OC kudos for our HC. lol remember a lot of folks seem to care more about "style points" these days than wins.

Not one of the pundit predictions count for a single point. If any of the WVU coaches or players believe they cannot win the conference championship this year they should be physically thrown out of Milan Puskar Stadium with a one way ticket to Pittsburgh.
