That's about what you'd expect. You don't see too many situations where a coach comes in and keeps some of the previous staff.

in an administrative job. Everybody likes Rocky but he is an icon of a "losing" scenario...he was a good football player at State and another loser as a head coach. Unfortunately, he "stinks" of losing regimes at State. Smith may have some merit...but maybe not. Those two are suspect as far as moving forward is concerned. I don't understand Mullen wanting Rocky to hang around. I imagine that Rocky kind of hides when the Ninja is in the vicinity. How far away is Rocky from taking his pension?

Reed needs to go. He is way over his head as an on the field assistant in the SEC. He is being given way to much credit for his recruiting. Similar to the talk of firing Croom would cause recruits to jump ship. Sending the big red-head on his way would have zero effect on the commits.

Rockey needs to be hidden away in the Bulldog Club or something. If he ever had any on the field relevance it is long gone!

I bet Rockey gets Pendergass's Asst. AD job. As far as how many years he has in PERS is concerned, not as many as you'd think. It looks like he has 14-15 years (3 as assistant coach 1976-78, 5 as head coach 1986-90, and then recruiting coordinator/assistant coach since 2002-- not sure if 1975 counts since he may have been a graduate assistant then).

Didn't Mullen say that he would take on Special Teams responsibility? I don't know what that would leave Stringer, but I kind of like the looks of the 2009 coaching staff page:

1. Why is Stringer considered a good recruiter?
2. How does Stringer compare to the other assistants as far as recruiting is concened?
3. How does Stringer compare to the other assistants overall (recruiting, coaching, etc.)?

I think Reed Stringer is considered a good recruiter because he's responsible for the recruitment of Tyler Russell (and no recruits below 3 stars)...

Nothing would be worng with Rockey returning to the "Director of Football Operations" where he was when Croom came in.

I hope Pendergrass if run out of town.

Pendergrass is a +#+!%*@ waste of my money as a bulldog supporter(albeit not the only waste). I remember hanging out with that dude a while back and I was saying how I didn't think Croom was a good coach(big +#+!%*@ suprise) and one of his "rent a thugs" in his entourage got all pissed and acted like he wanted to fight me. Super professional. Here is my one question. You have spent so much time taking up for Croom when people talk **** and talking yourself into the fact that it's "not Crooms fault", but do you think Croom is going to take you with him when he gets a job with another team? HELL NO!

I must say that he did look incredibly suave during the player's walk. I think he felt like we were all standing there ringing our cowbells at him, for making such critical "director of football operations" decisions.

For starters, I know how to spell his name which you don't.

Rockey has no business being an on the field coach. He best days are long gone. Do you actually think he can successfully recruit 17-18 year old kids?

I know he was not on the field for five years until Croom was dumb enough to put him back out there. He will now be returned to his cubicle.

By all accounts, Rockey kept this recruiting class together when we had no head coach to speak of.

are retained. I have been told by other coaches that Stringer is a good recruiter. Pendergrass was and is Croom's personal secretary/assistant so I would expect him to be leaving as fast as possible. He won't be missed.

Stringer was strong armed by Croom to take the ST job when Croom could not find anyone else to take on the job. Stringer is a life long MSU fan and not to mention our best recruiter. He is responsible for recruiting Russell, Boyd, Smith, Thames, Cox, Langston, etc. I know Reed gets a bad rap for his team's special team play, but imagine coaching special teams with Carlson and McShank at the helm. The bottom line is ****** kickers, punters, and to a lesser extent snappers can make a decent coach look terrible real fast. I hope Mullen retains Stringer as a position coach, administrator, etc., and not as a ST coach. Stringer being a ST coach was all on Coach Croom and you can't blame the guy for taking the raise in pay to help out his family. I just hope that decision doesn't cost him his job.

I know most of you think he stinks, but Bigedawg23 is right, he bleeds maroon. If we are going to hang on to Rocky, then please look at Stringer in the same sense. The guy played football at Delta St. and wanted to walk on at State like Lee did, but decided to get the free ride. His family have and always will be big State supporters. He knows the state and the high school coaches quite well. Don't hold the Bama game against him.

Remember, he worked for an idiot. Haven't we all at one time?

Rockey knows college football as well as probably anyone in Starkville. That does not mean he is a good on the field coach but when it comes to recruiting and just knowing how the business is run, Rockey is very valuable to MSU. Not only that, he is one of the most loyal guys you will ever see.

Reed is a good coach and a good recruiter. He could coach tight ends or anyting else really with good instruction. I think Rockey will be recruiting coord or back in the office as assit AD...that is unless he now has the fire to coach again(?) Then we will see.

but if Mullen is the type person I suspect he is he`ll really like Rockey and welcome his help OFF the field. Rockey and Susan Felker really ARE people with class and character and when Mullen and all the new guys are gone Rockey will still be there to do whatever it is MSU needs for him to do. Don`t ever underestimate what Rockey Felker means to many many affluent Mississippi State people.

So because he "bleeds maroon" we should keep him on staff? Somehow this sounds like the MState way

Stringer used to give the "pre-game analysis" at the Student Bulldog Club meetings. He is a complete idiot. He was a graduate assistant, then tight ends coach (where we have had talent, but no one has stepped up since Donald Lee) then he gets promoted to Special Teams where if he wasn't for Pegue's natural talent - there would be no bright spot in any of our special teams unit. Coach 0 was a great recruiter and look where it got him because it doesn't matter how big their recruiting stars are, if you cant coach them to be better players then it don't mean s*it. Yes, better players do make a better team. I am not arguing that, the point is if you can't coach them efficiently, it doesn't matter.

But with the way our special teams looked this year, I feel like we should drop him off at the border in Mexico and tell him not to return until he figures out how to make a kick off go past the 35 yard line, free up a kick returner, make a chip shot field goal, or tackle an opposing punt returner. Bottom line is that if our special teams did not suck so bad then we are preparing for a bowl game right now.

Thanks, Hanmudog. Rockey belongs in Mississippi State's football program. Perhaps he's not the guy you want doing position coaching or other on-the-field jobs, but he knows football in the state of Mississippi, he has become a strong administrator and he understands leadership. No AD or Head Coach will ever find a guy more willing to follow their lead, build on their vision and drive Mississippi State toward its football goals.
