Big weekend. Would be great to get Alexander and Washington.
Alexander quote: “Mississippi State has really gone way over the top here lately,” he said. “There’s a need for me. They have two of the top corners in the country right now, powerful corners. I think they’re the sleeper out of the schools. Dan Mullen has talked to me several times and I’m the guy he wants. They’re blowing the door off this thing right now. I’m not sure if I’ll fit in there. All I can do is be patient right now.”

These guys want to play their first year. It's something we can offer at the cornerback and wide receiver position right now.

Wrong. Lots of red flags with Smith. And grades are the least of his problems. Why in the hell do you think our staff is barely recruiting the best player on a JUCO team 60 miles away? Think it through.

^^Amen. Dammit we don't need any more 5'11 180 lb slot receivers with the mindset of the likes of Delmon Robinson.

You take this guy 10 times out of 10. True blue chip receiver in the slot. Best slot receiver in all of JUCO IMO. We need a guy to fill Bumphis' role. This is as good as it gets. Jameon may/may not develop into that, but all I know is that this was EMCC's best offensive weapon this year. He was the go-to receiver with Brassell lined up across from him, if that says anything...

What red flags? Seems we're recruiting him pretty hard if we are bringing him in on an OV AFTER he cancelled on us at the last minute last weekend.

Grades? Seriously? The only school looking at him is his hometown Ohio State University. If he can get into that school, his grades certainly aren't a problem for Mississippi State...

Excellent thread. Not surprisingly, this thread contains at least 4 guys who are FAR more immediately important to our class and future success than Kailo Moore, yet he has 80 responses and no one is interested in talking about all the positive in this one.

Justin Cox - 4* DB. Underrated. Even Yancy calls Cox a 5* talent. Tremendous speed and nose for the football. He was consistently the BEST player on the field for EMCC, and he shared the defensive backfield with 4* UGA commit Shaq Fluker and Nick Brassell.

Corey Smith - mid 4* slot receiver/kick returner. Best offensive weapon EMCC had this past season. He was a tremendous go-to receiver for them.

MacKenzie Alexander - 5* blue chip cornerback prospect out of Florida. A&M's 24/7 site ran a story on him today calling us a major player and dark horse, where he went into great detail about how we are recruiting him the hardest/best, how he loves our staff, how he likes the chance for immediate PT and how we developed 2 different 2* guys into some of the best corners in the country. This is the second 5* highschool cornerback from out of state to visit us in as many weeks. The other, Jalen Ramsey, has us squarely on his radar. He is not going to end up sticking with USC, so our chances with him are excellent.

Jeremey Chappellle - high 3* JUCO wr from Texas. Don't know much about him, other than he's one of the deep threat priorities after missing on Rumph

Carroll Washington - mid 4* JUCO cornerback from California. Has been committed to Arky for awhile, but commented earlier this week on how we've done a tremendous job of recruiting him. Widely known that IF we got an OV, we have an excellent chance of flipping him. Well, we are getting our OV. Arguably the best JUCO coverage guy in the country IMO...

Riyahd Jones - low 3* JUCO corner from Georgia. Has offers from us, OM, West Va, UK, Texas Tech, Kansas St among others... Of these visitors, he's the one I know the least about...and also the one I'm least excited about.

Our fanbase has GOT to quit fixating over individual recruits and start understanding that the SEC's rise, our investments into the program, being consistently good, and also Brewster's recruiting prowess is making us a NATIONAL player for some guys. Quit worrying about the individual recruit in MS in a position that arguably has the least effect on our class either way...

Sadly the only reason most people care about Moore is because the name Ole Miss is involved in the discussion.

This class for us, even without him, is going to be very good.

What a refreshing 17ing post! Well said. I agree, we have some serious talent coming in this weekend, so let's have a front page talking about the guys that DO see a possible future with us. We could end up with a top 15 class this year....and that's without having a 5 star in our backyard and having to rely on a brother connection. Those connections will not always be there. Meanwhile, our staff has a chance to close out with a bang. Should be interesting. Thanks engie.

I agree.....the only reason our fans are up and arms about Kailo is because it's Ole Miss involved and we've been burned by them recently. Seeing CJ Johnson rape our O-Line in the Egg Bowl hurt and I don't want that feeling again with another but if he flips, so be it.

Has MSU become a top 5 school for DB?

We really seem to get the cream of the crop at that position interested in us now. Hopefully this trend continues and hopefully Brewster can start getting top 10 level talent at the WR position. WR to me is where State needs to make the next jump in talent.

Great post. We need to PAY Brewster.

Oh yeah, didn't our failure of a coach, Dan Mullen, hire him?**

Thanks for the time to write that for the non-recruitniks. I don't want to read this stuff over and over but it is good to know we are actually recruiting even more good players. Reading this board, you would think we are only recruiting Kalio and Shumpert.

To add:
We are also in the running for:
4* Ramsey (visited last weekend) - http://247sports.com/Player/Jalen-Ramsey-11463 - Us or USC
4* Smith (visited last weekend) - http://247sports.com/Player/ZaDarius-Smith-18557 - Us, Florida State or Texas A&M
4* Shumpert - http://247sports.com/Player/Ashton-Shumpert-12568 - Us, UGA or OM
4* Sanders - http://247sports.com/Player/Tommy-Sanders-19404 - Us or Texas A&M

That is 8 4* are are in the hunt for real late in the game, to add on our other 4/5 4*s. This will be Mullen's best class and a top 15 one.

Correct on all this.

- Ramsey is a composite 5*. One of the absolute best players in the country at his position. He is the #33 national prospect according to 24/7, and #24 overall according to the 24/7 composite. His parents want him close to home, and his mom is sold on us.
- Smith is expected to be a Bulldog(and likely already is privately). Expect it to become public after he gets back from his last official visit to Austin, Texas this weekend.
- As of today, Shumpert is a Bulldog. It's between us and UGA, and it doesn't appear that UGA has any space left in the class for him. Ole Miss could make a late push, but it looks great for us right ow.
- Sanders is a tremendous JUCO lb. A&M is very, VERY nearly full, and I mostly expect this guy to be a Bulldog.

I fully expect us to get 3 of these guys...at least...

We are about to finish this class with 6-8 4 and 5* players... for the best class I've ever seen us have.

Yet, we have a fanbase that is going full meltdown over one scat back...

Is someone else trying to hire him away?

Other than being rumored for 3 or 4 head gigs already, including Nc State? Nevermind the coordinator spots that must be filled around the country... OR the fact that the Longhorns want him back on staff and wanted it yesterday...

Yes. People are trying to hire him away. He's absolutely killed it on the recruiting trail for us thusfar. He's done more recruiting in three months than the rest of our staff COMBINED. It is in our best interest to do whatever it takes to keep him at State and happy.

It does seem that State does have a connection with having good DB's and developing them. I wonder if Smoot and some of the other old players are providing a boost to recruiting? Croom never brought in old players or tried to get them involved with the program. Mullen has embraced this and realized that it helps when you have former All-Americans and NFL players around campus.

I live near Tyler Junior College. I will see what I can dig up on Chappelle. I know a few Texas JUCO gurus who know the TJC coach well.

Historically Tyler Junior College has had some good ones. I suspect they usually stay inside Texas D1 schools if they are from Texas. Chappelle is originally from Jacksonville. I think he transferred to TJC from Stephen F. Austin. Went to a $20,000 per year private high school where they recruit players. Competition level medium, some private schools in texas play in public school divisions. It's not like Miss. Lots of high school teams around Tyler compete for Texas State titles, there are a lot of good teams in all classifications. There are millions of divisions though.

Upon research, The TJC coach says to my source that he "thinks" Chappelle is going to state. Said he is probably the best player on the field for him, and the cliched beast term is applied. Tyler Junior College plays in a salty division. They play Blinn (where Cam newton played post Florida and prior to Auburn), Kilgore College, and a few Dallas area Ju-co teams which are proving grounds for D1 guys with grade issues.

Nice work! Got to give you props on that!

I don't share your enthusiasm with Smith. He might be best available seasoned WR but we have more of a need on the outside. If as someone has posted recently that we're going 2-Tight, the slot will be less of a factor. But I don't know how much our current inventory projection in the slot has affected that decision. Tubby held his own the last few games and I'd like to see Hollaway(?) get some meaningful reps.

Keep up the good work!
