Interesting- may indicate the BIG 12 will soon move to add some PAC schools rather than a full merger as the PAC side wanted.
Or perhaps the new Notre Dame developments have altered what is needed.

Both Oregon and Washington have participated in the College Football Playoff and aren't bound by a grant of rights after the league's TV deal ends. Also, the Big 12 has monitored through backchannels the potential of adding Pac-12 schools Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado, which is a former Big 12 member.
New Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has maintained that the league is "open for business" and the conference has stressed that it plans to be aggressive about potential additions.
"We will leave no stone unturned to drive value for the conference," Yormark said at media day. He added: "There is no higher priority than to best position the Big 12 for its upcoming multimedia rights negotiations. Everything we do must create momentum for those negotiations."

The best option is the Big12 goes for the jugular of the Pac12 and poaches the most valuable schools they can. Otherwise, the Pac12 will poach the Big12.
Nikes leader is trying to get Oregon out of the PAC— lots of instability there. They’ll be looking at the Fresno, SDSU, Boise, Nevada type adds if they can expand, no one is leaving the BIg 12 to go there cause a year from now more Schools could move out.
It will be even funnier when BSU and SDSU say no and the Mountain West poaches the PACs remained stragglers after we do.
The PAC isn’t adding anyone but maybe SDSU, Boise— but they’ll apparently have to hold their noses to do it.

I mean people like you preached that about the BIg 12 for a decade. Now suddenly the PAC is strong despite just losing its top brands and what’s left actively looking for a path out? How does that work for anyone looking for a safe conference home exactly?
