The discussion being about Dionte Neal on another thread and referencing body type specific to sport, reminded of a TED talk I had listened to and read years ago. (Time flies, I didn’t realize it was from 2014!). Some of you may find this little talk interesting as it briefly goes through the history of sport and discusses mining the globe for 7ft basketball players (and how truly rare those heights are) and how in some sports the body hasn’t advanced as much as we suppose and it is more techniques (flip turns in swimming) and technology (swimsuit material) that has sometimes led to major record jumps. And in some cases we’re now just “Exploiting the Freaks” in athletics instead of circuses now.
Watch if you’d like and it may generate some posting dialogue about current sports and years gone by.
