A lot of hype about this group (Chaney, White, Wright) and they constantly missed tackles and got caught up inside and Auburn busted them on the outside.....I expected more from this group........They didn't look like they were stepping up in the gaps and didn't appear to attack at all.....

productive on defense. Getting burnt at every position on the D. Poor defensive schemes. Shame shame shame.

I agree the linebackers were very disappointing, if we could have stopped them burning us outside, it could have been a different game. Yes, our dbs suck too, but I think a lot of that was due to the coverages being called and the lack of a pass rush. It seems like we were trying to play zone all night and never adjusted or mixed it up. I mean, what in the hell did Mullen see in Torbush? Did he not review film of his defenses?

I think that defensive schemes were the biggest problem. I understand that our secondary is horrible but I feel with more blitzing we could have disguised that. The only time we blitzed we only brought 5 guys and still gave the qb problems so we should have tried 6 or 7 at times.</p>

we are as bad as we have been talent wise in a long time. Mullen has a lot tougher job than previously thought. We are not good. We have very few SEC quality players on this roster. Patience will be required. That has to be the biggest disappointment of the previous staff, they failed miserably in recruiting.

bottom line, if u cant cover the pass with 7 or 8 guys, then maybe u should try sending 7 or 8 instead....... why is basic football stradegy so difficult for our defensive coaches? i really thought we'd make an adjustment on this issue at the half. ....ok i see that if u send that many all the time, teams will screen us to death. but if u mix it up a bit, it keeps opposing offenses honest. at least enought o give us some sorta chance!

I'd much rather get burned by blitzing the house than playing a run and pass zone all night.

I attended the game and sat in the endzone. With my view I was able to see our defense from behind during the 1st and 3rd quarters. One thing that I saw that was a big problem was the confusion in our LB corp and Secondary at pre-snap and at the snap. As soon as the motion started they all looked confused and lost as to what to do. Zach Smith had his head in the backfield and by the time he figured out who had the ball the guy had turned the corner and we already lost containment.

Knowing Malzahn likes to create confusion, I thought we might be more prepared and also would run more nickel packages. Our LB could not get out and contain.

Bottom line we lost the game on the last 2 drives of the 1st half. The option play Chanay got blocked in the back and should have been a clipping call. And the last drive was just flat out horrid! Our secondary looked stupid! They ran combo routes with one guy short and the slot guy running over the top and our secondary bit and jumped on the short route and Todd hit the guy over the top in between CB and safety. We just played very poorly. We have ZERO pressure from our front 4. We are a work in progress and we do have athletes and we do have a quality coaching staff. I believe in this staff and their mission. I just hope we can get it turned around a little quicker.

We were lost most of the night on defense. Torbush was extremely out matched by their staff. It doesn't help that we only have 1 player who Croom signed that is a legitimate DT and that is Love. The other guys are beefed up D ends. Also, our secondary is very poor from a talent standpoint. They play hard, as all our players do, but they aren't very good.

Scheme wise, why do we slant our defensive ends inside every time? Also, many times we would bring only 3 down linemen and the Auburn offensive line was able to scrape off on our LB and seal them. LB's and DB's took terrible angles as well. All in all it was a defensive catastrophe that started at the top and filtered thru to every man on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't think we will win another game this year. Hope I am wrong, but will have to see a major step-up if we are going to win again. At the end of the season, I still expect Auburn to be at best 3rd in the west and most likely 4th or 5th.

our defensive line really pissed me off. Our secondary is bad but they are much worse when the quarterback can take his sweet time to throw the ball. We got pressure on him maybe 3 times in the game and he looked scared to death.

It's hard to get pressure when you only rush three guys who are double-teamed all night.

There were enough disappointments to last a lifetime but when they went for the fake punt on 4th and 9 and easily made it-told me they were nowhere close to being afraid of ability to stop them. Bid disappointment.
