CMS has won alot of battles for some pretty highly rated and sought after players. Who though has came in and truly made the impact wanted?
My choice is either Boom or Westry.

Matt Elam by far. He was a top rated player (5*) who we batted Bama for and won. He may not have developed like we want but he is the crown jewel

Rivals didn't have him as a 5*, and it looks like they were the accurate evaluation up to this point. Boom was highly rated and hasn't disappointed, but the highest rated player he has gotten has to be Young, he was a Rivals 5* and at a position of need. If he lives up to his billing it has to be him and no one else would be close. RB, WR and DB are everywhere, especially WR now with a guy 6'4"-6'6" hardly has a position in basketball, unless you are UGA then you can be power forward.

I think Williams would be the top choice based on performance. Westry has not really reached anywhere near his potential yet. Also we have had some damn good impact JUCOs including Big Z, CJ and Lewis.

Drew Barker.

He was the leader and catalyst of that entire class. Plus, Stoops' fate will be determined by his play this year and next.

Good post, I agree. And, perception wise, although Young may be a better player Barker will get a whole lot more headlines if he succeeds------and he is going to have a LOT of talent around him to make him look better.

Then again, some underrated and overlooked (so far) star could emerge, Cobb wasn't that highly thought of, several candidates there so far, like Conrad for instance, "only" a 5.8 vs a 5.9 like Barker and Boom, but still------.

And we could add another five star OL soon that might be rated even higher than the only one we have signed this century.

Forget potential. I think Westry is a higher performer than Boom already at his position. Boom can't stay in the game & has hissy fits.

You may be right but the question was Who though has came in and truly made the impact wanted?

Hatcher was the biggest. Took him away from USC and Louisville and that sent a signal to other recruits and got the ball rolling in bringing in talent.

I don't think that's Boom's fault, there are forces involved with him outside of him and UK's staff, I think you know what I mean.

Boom was a great enthusiastic cheerleader at open practice a few weeks ago,, I guess that his attitude is 0 problem this year. I am gonna believe that until I for sure know different!

Mr. Hatcher set a great example for his team, didn't he?

Seems I have a fan following me ;) I don't mind. Lol

The thread isn't about a guy on the team leading by example, thread is about landing a recruit.
How would you feel if we landed the #1 player in the country and had other players following suit saying they wanted to play with him. Lesser ranked but good players non the less. Later on the top player does not get qualified to play and goes to Juco but we still held on to other 5 and 4 star players and they played for us.
I take it you would give no credit to the staff or the kid by the snowball effect on this mythical example?

I'll go with Barker because where would our QB position be at right now if we hadn't signed him? Not to mention that Spurrier (HOF coach) was all-in on Drew for 3 years before Stoops got involved. Drew was the driving force behind the highest rated class at UK in the modern era. I think that qualifies Drew at the most important recruiting win.

Biggest recruiting win for me is Javonte Richardson though. Just for the fact that the staff pulled in a top 100 player nationally from out of state sent shockwaves through the recruiting world. Landon was a huge get but it was an instate guy that the staff got a commitment from when he was a sophomore and had zero offers from anyone

Based on CMS's comments that the recruitment of Mike Edwards was the toughest he has had here at UK and then his statement last week that Edwards was the best player on the team, I am going with Edwards followed closely by Barker.

BTW, for those that watched the spring game, what's Matts conditioning level looking like? Improved or same old...id love to see this kid hit his potential.

Improved but not where he needs to be yet. He's at 350 right now and the staff wants him to get down to 335 in time for fall camp

That should be doable as his mentality is much better than what it used to be. If so I'd say he might start being a leader along the line.

The great thing about this thread is that there are so many different players that observers think are in the running for the honor.
