Used some time in the bye week to get away to Nantucket with his girlfriend. Maybe it's less publicized, but do most coaches use the bye week for vacation? When your two wins on the season are Charlotte and Richmond and you've been smoked by TCU And UCF, it doesn't seem like a good look to be cavorting around New England with your daughter-aged girlfriend. I would think you'd be using every waking hour trying to fix the team.

This was a terrible hire. At least when Lou Holtz was here, he was trying to win. For Bill, this was just an easy money grab.

Jordan - ''Bill, I think we need to go to Nantucket and get away from this stress''.
Bill - ''Whatever you want dear, this UNC thing is just a hobby to buy your companionship''.

Heck, he is living many men’s fantasy as it is. Why would he need a vacation when he is living the dream?

I don't fault UNC for taking basically a Hail Mary shot by hiring Belichick. I said at the time it would be spectacular, one way or the other And so far it's been a spectacular failure. He's clearly not all that invested in it.

One rumor was that he took the job to get his son the job. That's not working out real well if that was the intention.

Yep, when you talking to your girlfriend on the sideline instead of the coaches you have an issue.

I can't recall when I've ever seen a coach chatting up his WIFE on the sideline immediately prior to a game.

Same thing Holtz did. We see how that played out.
I can't say that Skip Holtz is a great coach. But he is not a bad coach either. He has won 60% of his games as a Head Coach. Beamer has won 57%. I would have preferred hiring Holtz before settling for Muschamp and Beamer.

Probably a mischaracterization. Don't think Holtz took the job just to get his son a job. His son was already a head coach in the college ranks.
While The primary reason for him taking the job may not have been to be in a position to pass it off to his son, it was certainly predetermined that the job would be passed onto Skip once Lou left. Skip admitted years later that that deal had been cut (unofficially) with Mike McGee at the outset. Had Lou left after that second Outback Bowl win, I believe it would’ve happened.

My impression is that most coaches use the by week to focus on recruiting.

Spurrier Jr. was on the staff as well. I'm sure there was some talk about Jr. getting the job when dad left. Spurrier shamefully quitting mid season killed any chance of that.

Skip would have probably been a good hire.
