1st Ballot HOF! Like him or hate him, that’s surprising. Now, will Eli Manning be one? If so, is that system just flawed? Did the Spy/Deflate Gates finally catch up?

Pretty surprising, but I feel like he has become a part of Brady’s story and not the other way around. 10 years ago, I called those two the best QB & HC combo in NFL history. Today, I think Brady is the best player in NFL history and Belichick just happened to be his coach.

I do not think Eli should be in the HOF.

He definitely stayed too long in New England and made some really bad personnel decisions after Brady left. But his record speaks for itself.

I think it’s the penalty for breaking the rules and for a lot of people just not liking him.

then he’ll get in easily next year

It sucks for the other coaches who were semi finalists this year. Of all the semifinalists, only one coach gets sent as a finalist for consideration for induction. Belichick will surely be the finalist again next year, which means guys like Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, Dan Reeves and George Seifert will have to wait another year for potential induction because the voters were petty and didn’t put in Belichick on the first ballot to “punish” him for Spygate or because they don’t like him personally.

Does his record speak for itself? He was 41-56 as a head coach before Brady took the starting job in 2001. And then he went 29-38 after Brady left. So 70-94 overall. He did go 10-5 in games after Brady’s injury in 2008, so I guess 80-99 plus however he did during. Brady’s 4 game suspension for deflate gate.

That’s probably giving Brady too much credit, but how poorly bellicjick did without him when Brady proved he couldn’t without bellochcik, plus what he’s done at UNC has really hurt his legacy. Then if you believe spygate was a real advantage for him and beyond what other coaches were doing, I can see voters questioning how much he belongs and being certain he’s not a first ballot HOFer.

There are a lot of people who want to see Robert Kraft inducted, and since Kraft and Belichick hate each other now, it would be a big 17 you to Belichick for Kraft to make it this year while Belichick doesn’t. I think that plays into it as well. Kraft has a lot of supporters in the HoF voters, and I bet they’d put Kraft in before Belichick just to stick it to Bill.

I think belichick is a clown and a certified A hole. I don’t blame people for not liking him, but this has nothing to do with that. This is beyond embarrassing for the hall of fame.

He coached the Browns for 5 years & is still their winningest coach in the last 35 years. Heck he went 17-15 with Vinnie Testeverde as his QB. And 10-5 with Matt Cassell. Brady hates him too but even he says this is ridiculous he’s not in.

I don't really disagree with you, I'm just pointing out the argument. Even a great QB can't win like that without a good coach and GM. A pretty good but not great coach can get lucky with a team and win a superbowl. You have to have be really good to win 6. An argument against Bellichik is basically making the same argument that Saban isn't really a great coach, he just had great players (difference being that he had to restock every year, and having Brady for years on end means Bellicheck can't even be fully credited for building superbowl winning teams over and over).

The UNC experience is a bad look, but I think that's just a combination of the college game being different plus him being too old. Or maybe it's not really his age, but just that you can't be an authority figure for a bunch of college kids when they see you getting bossed around by a girl in her 20's. But I don't think it's really indicative of him never having been a good coach.

Agree. Belichick should have retired after 2021 and not come back. Those last 2 years at NE and the debacle at UNC have really hurt his reputation as a great coach badly.

This is a stupid decision by the HOF. These hall of fame museums pretend like they are somehow these stalwart bastions protecting the "integrity of the sport" especially baseball. They are literally tourist destinations . . . .for sports. Sports. Belichick should no doubt be in, but I guess a lesson could be learned here, and that may be "don't be a dick. It doesn't make you look cool or tough. It just makes you a dick. It will probably cost you something you want in the end when all the people you were a dick to for 40 years hold your fate." Side note: I think Saban used to be perceived as kind of a dick, but he is revitalizing his image as the "loveable curmudgeon" on game day.

Take a look at UNCs recruiting class, if BB sticks around they are going to be good with Petrino as OC

#17 in high school recruiting and #48 in portal recruiting. They might be mediocre, but I doubt many of the top half of the ACC are too concerned.

I think he probably should've gotten voted in, but you can't ignore the fact that sportswriters get to vote, and Bill never really played nice with the Press. Not justifying it - just recognizing it. The cheating allegations, cheerleader stuff, UNC season, Pats drop off after Brady, etc. didn't help his cause, either.
