His buyout is a paltry (by today’s standards) $20MM. …Florida can pick that up on the side of the interstate between Gainesville and Ocala.

Feels like he’s a dead man walking.

You know, back before we hired Leach, there were rumors that we all but begged Sunbelt Billy to come here before he basically told us to stop calling.

So I kind of hate to see how this is playing out for him.

Did they renegotiate his buyout? Or is he still on the original contract?

This doesn't directly answer your questions but it seems to be the internet's accepted understanding:

Napier's contract was a 7-year deal worth $51.8 million but, he is owed $30.2 million on this deal. If Napier is fired this season, he would be on the hook for 85% of his remaining contract value. 50% of the deal needs to be paid upfront, while the rest is paid on an annual basis. The buyout if Billy Napier is fired after this season would be $19.38 while firing him in season would result in a slightly bigger figure depending on when the move is made.

Man did Stricklands get rolled on that deal. I get firing Mullen was out of his control and Mullen didn't make it easy on him by dialing down the arrogance, but committing $44M guaranteed to a sunbelt coach is pretty insane.
