Got a concrete slab poured in backyard and some electrical work (replacing light fixtures) from a guy in neighborhood.
Had company card, licensed, insured etc.

And on top of that we got a neighbor from Hell that I warned contractors about,
They actually got a rut in their yard about 6” x 10’

contractor told them he would repair and replace sod.
Didn’t matter
Neighbor from hell filed a complaint with city and I got a visit today from city compliance.

come to find out contractors license expired end of December 2025
Also was told by compliance that he probably crushed French drains.
I have paid for about 3/4 of work, and don’t intend to pay anymore until this is resolved..

Any idea what happens from here?
Will I have to sacrifice any grandchildren
??

Thanks guys and Helen

6" x 10'? You can shovel that and it'd be fine. Stomp it out with boots. Your neighbor sucks.

Dude may have just forgotten about his license. I don't know enough about that, but at least it's not like 2 years expired.

You got any pics? Lot of those compliance guys are total idiots. I had a new guy come out and tell me I had to replace one of those decorative wooden fences like you see on the Natchez Trace, and I'm not even in the city limits or anywhere near an HOA. Generally you can tell them to 17 off, unless you live in like California.

Man that sounds like a shiituation, best of luck.

Every time I think about moving, I remember I have fantastic neighbors and having to live beside people who suck can be a big quality of life issue. And it's not like you can get an inspection report or home warranty for shiity neighbors. Total roll of the dice.

Someone check me but I think Mississippi follows comparative fault (Miss. Code § 85-5-7). That means liability is divided based on percentage of fault, not ownership. So your contract guy is presumably on the hook for your neighbor's damage. I don't think his license being expired is going to make you any more liable under the law than if it had not expired.

where in the world do you live

The minute your neighbor called the city, I would have stopped there. Contractors should keep their work on property and respect property boundaries and others property, but mistakes do happen, and as long as you are of a spirit to repair to their satisfaction, then your neighbor should have worked with you......they just showed who they are inside, and I would in a neighborly way ask them to call the city off and you would be happy to finish repairing to their satisfaction, but if they keep the city engaged and hassling you, then relationship is off and over and they should hope they do not have any violations

Your neighbor sucks
You shouldn't have to pay anything. Contractor will or his insurance.

Your neighbor sucks.

also, coincidentally i just read a meme on social media that may be true or not, but it pertains to a crappy neighbor.

Guys neighbor did something stupid like call the HOA on his garbage cans being visible on non garbage days. So the guy complies and waits a couple of weeks. Then every wednesday on night before garbage day neighbor puts his cans out. Guy wakes up weekly at 3:00 a.m. and moves the garbage cans enough just so he can notice. Does it for like 6 to 8 months.

Apparently it freaked the neighbor out enough to call a priest.

ETA: Oh yeah your neighbor sucks.

Inspecting neighbors should be an occupation. “I’m passing on the home inspection until I hear back on the neighbor inspection.”

Take a gas can and pour a giant penis in your neighbor's yard at 2am. Won't help the situation any, but it'll make you feel better.
