FYI Phoebus has state champion in track with these same football players lol....if the kid is all that great why was Blacksburg 5-5? I'm sure if he does break it Andre Jackson or Johnatan Gregory can chase him down. Good player but some people are overrating him. Again I've only seen the games on YouTube.
Dazz Newsome was probably the best athlete in the state and proved his worth in the game against Phoebus. Phoebus had terrible practice that week and got punched in the mouth early...it was 21-0 in blink of an eye. Blacksburg has nowhere near the talent Hampton had this year. Phoebus couldn't get the offense going but shut a high powered offense down in Woodside. Blacksburg has nowhere near the talent Woodside had this year. By the way both of those L's were played with the backup QB who had a tough time leading the offense this year.
It is good to see a #10 seed get to semi finals. I like to see lower seeds win because they always have to "travel". The VHSL is in love with the higher seed host crap.
You can say the lame comments like this, but the fact that our kids have only given up 7 points through the first 3 playoffs games is beyond impressive. We are a different animal than anyone Blacksburg has went up against this year.
Phoebus guys were saying the exact same thing last year at this time and half way thru season but got feelings hurt when mv came to town. Don't think Blacksburg is as good as mv was but same ol stuff.
Salem is one team. Hampton, Woodside, Bethel, Heritage and Phoebus are all just as good if not better than Salem. No disrespect but they are all in the same district. Phoebus is battle tested. you shall soon see. Good Luck!!
Phoebus should win the game. Don't let fattyhawk get anyone ruffled up on here - a few weeks ago he was talking about how horribly coached they were and they weren't ever going to win a state championship - now he has them locked and loaded for at least a title shot in two weeks.
It is hard to make the case that Bethel and Heritage are as good as Salem. Hampton and Woodside for sure are but you can't really include teams that beat you and one that stomped you. Losing 44-0 against any team is not impressive.
I already said that I expect Phoebus to win this game and I would not be surprised if it was a blowout. If they play SR in the championship, I will probably be picking against the Phantoms.
Well they are a game away...and I dont see a Hampton or a Woodside caliber team left...I still dont like the coaching and thats my opinion...Phoebus could be alot better, but even where they are now... they can still win it with the teams remaining..btw..that why forums exist, so you can post opinions. I gave mine, which is not a crime..and frankly I dont care what you think!

All three of those teams would be getting beaten up by Salem more often than not.
Who cares about last year? This isn't last year. We aren't playing a defending state champion. The kids aren't sleeping on the team they have never heard of or seen. The only thing yall have to stand on is that we lost to MV but neglect to acknowledge that Blacksburg is not MV.
Yeah man coaching is definitely not the caliber of what it was under Dee and Sexton....honestly with Sexton still at the head we would've won that year with Marshawn at HB and TT at QB and probably another one. We know the potential because we know the kids we have so these people up here won't understand. I can't really blame Blunt because after the scandal with Sexton the HCS has been strict with Phoebus...hell Blunt couldn't even hire his own staff until last year.
Exactly! Im just ready for the game. I want to see what this Blacksburg team can do against Phoebus. All this talk about this and that...the fact is Phoebus is playing Blacksburg for the right to go to the championship. For all you Blacksburg fans, please give your prediction.
lol Like I posted many times the game isn't played on paper or a keyboard. The kids play the game. Here's to a good game and injury free for all the kids.
I think the biggest issue with the Phoebus is stems from last year beginning of the playoffs when it was a couple of phoebus posters who just wrote off every team especially in 3A West and basically said that Phoebus will win the state title every year now considering they are playing in 3A. Although the posters who were making those comments haven't been on this thread, I think ppl are putting everyone who's associated with Phoebus in that category. The comments were outrageous last year so when MV won, that's why everyone was happy when they lost because those posters said it couldn't be done. So now it's like phoebus has a target on its back but hey im hoping for a good game.
Phoebus loss the game last year 28-23...lol This is a different year, and frankly the turnout for Phoebus has not been that great. I understand people would love to see Phoebus lose. Lets see what Blacksburg can do. We got our lips poke out!!!!
Thank you for clearing it up for me. Makes sense now when I point out that Phoebus has given up only 7 points in the last 5 games I get lame comebacks like "I guess we're playing the 85 bears defense Saturday." The hate is real up here and the only reason 98% people are picking against Phoebus is because they hate them, but our kids work hard just like every other team left in the playoffs and deserve their proper respect. Last year is last year and people need to get over it. When I say if Phoebus comes out focused then they should have no problem this weekend. I'm not saying that 3A is a cake walk I'm just saying I've seen film on the team and Phoebus has the better overall team.
Blacksburg has already beat three supposedly "better overall teams" in these playoffs I believe they deserve a little respect also.
I just wish these teams would schedule each other in the regular season. Maybe not necessarily Phoebus and Salem but matchups like that at the beginning of the season would be cool to see. Like am I the only one who wants to see Staunton River-Phoebus or Hopewell-Blacksburg in the regular season?
Also, I have a feeling teams like Phoebus would really struggle with Salem's schedule. Staunton River is the number 1 ranked team in 3A on maxpreps at 12-1 and guess who their one loss was too....William Byrd, who lost to Salem TWICE this year. Not trying to throw any shade on those Norfolk area team but I just think the Roanoke area schedules are harder.
Salem plays Dinwiddie the next two years early in the season.
