Precisely to bring in movies who have no real shot at winning (ala District 9, Up, Blind Side), but will bring in tons of viewers. I doubt that many people will be tuning into see if "An Education" can take down Hurt Locker.

I couldn't have cared less who lived or died. At times I was actually rooting for the main character to get blown up.
