Matt signed with MDCC out of Leland HS. From what I’ve heard, he wasn’t really that good (just what I heard!). His coach, Terry Thompson, who coaches tons of pitchers in the Jackson area now, changed him to a sidearmer. Had a great career there and DSU. Went undrafted, played Indy ball in Greenville for maybe two seasons, signed by maybe the Rangers in the middle of a season, and just worked his way up. Became a pretty deadly reliever.
Proud of him and happy to now watch his son. He’s been careful with Maddox and has done a good job of helping him develop, not overdoing it, and letting good coaches coach him without getting in their way.
