It’s wild folks still believe JoMo did us favors. He didn’t transition a damn thing. All he did was ruin culture. I guarantee you the transition from Mullen to Leach would have been much smoother b/c the culture/discipline would have been consistent. The first thing Leach had to do was clean up JoMo’s hatchet job of running a program. If you don’t think Hevesy taught pass blocking, I don’t know what to tell you.
He's responsible for most of the players in the program right now. He also brought in 4* Shrader. The cupboard was bare after that 2018 season ended, and he refilled it. 2020 was always gonna be ugly, Mullen helped make it that way by ignoring high school recrootin and pulling a Jackie and going all JUCO.

Yes, he (Slophead) did ruin the culture. No one argues that. But let's be real, that's something that is corrected quickly by any coach with a backbone.

Of course Hevesy taught pass blocking. But the fundamental element of how the line blocks in different in that run-based spread. If you don't understand this, I don't know what to tell YOU.

I addressed Bama. And yes, we were beating them as much as we really ever have in our history. Roughly 40% is pretty consistent for us. It works in the egg bowl.

Time will tell if this gamble pays off. I hope it does.

Yeah I see what you did there. Now it makes sense. You don't know what the word consistent means. Got it.

I listened to Steve's Tuesday interview this AM.

I find it interesting that Steve talks about the offense adding new wrinkles, QB run, read option. He also mentions the RBs being the most talented of the offensive skill players. Maybe that is all a misdirection for the opponents but....assuming this is true. Could it be the passing game is still a work in progress? Or Leach is thinking he has to be more balanced after a full year in SEC play? We shall see.

I hate to tell you, but we're not consistently beating the top 8 teams in the expanded 16-team SEC unless they're down no matter who the coach is and no matter what offense we run. I don't think anyone is suggesting we try to run a 1980s offense, but we've got to be able to be balanced on offense, not overly dependent on the run or the pass. And 3,000 yards as a baseline expectation is ridiculous. Last full season of football (2019), only 3 teams in the SEC passed for 3,000 yards, and 2 of them were in the top half of the league in rushing offense as well.

If this is true and if Leach actually uses these new wrinkles in games, it is very good news.

I hope it is that Leach has found out that when a team is simply GIVING you something for free, you have to take it. The defensive line play is different in the SEC than other conferences, especially the Big 12 and Pac-12, unless you're playing USC or Texas I guess. Teams can drop 8 and still get to the QB.

That's the great thing about the Air Raid. Teams respect our pass threat simply based on Leach's reputation, doesn't matter if we can actually do it or not.

The most likely answer there is that they were unable to install the complete offense last year and that they are adding to it as the players are able to digest it. If you look back at previous teams they had successful running plays. Just because you are 70/30 passing doesn't mean you can't rip off a 10 or 15 yard run to keep them off guard.

Moorhead didn't do us any favors, but one thing he did (and probably the only thing he did a pretty decent job of) was quickly fill in some holes that Mullen's imbalanced recruiting had left. Our roster had problems and Mullen "fixed" them by going heavy Juco and that set us up to win big in 2018 (which JoMo ruined), but left us with some potentially fatal holes for 2019 and 2020. Moorhead did do a decent job of filling those holes. If we had hired a coach to come in and run a power spread, we were in decent shape except for the culture. For a passing spread or other pass heavy offense, we weren't in as good a shape but were probablyl in better shape than we would ahve been if we had transitioned directly from Mullen.

To me, it all depends on what type of QB Leach can sign. If he can consistently sign a Sawyer Robertson every 2/3 years, great, Air Raid has a chance. We've just never been able to do that before.

Maybe, maybe not. All we know about Sawyer Robertson is that he's nowhere near ready to play in the SEC right now. He may be an All-American before he's done and he may be a player who never takes many meaningful snaps in his career. But regardless of who we sign, you can't abandon the run in the SEC if you want to be successful.

This is the correct answer. Will was not playing with the full play book last season. That has changed. He will be this season. I've also heard Leach studied the film of us playing those SEC defenses and re-schemed some run plays based on what he observed. Again, just something I've heard.

No disrespect to any of you football geniuses here, but don't think that Leach hasn't played his entire career against the drop eight or that he doesn't understand SEC defenses. This guy has forgot more than any of us posters will ever know or understand about the game. He will be successful running his offense. How successful ultimately will depend on recruiting.

Like Leach said "If the drop 8 was this magic bullet I wouldn't be here coaching right now."

Is it time we consider the possibility Ralph Cramden is Mike Leach? 80% of posts are strong defenses of Leach coaching/recruiting.
