Pretty sure Bassett was #4 P4P rankings on Flo, and Jax was #2, but for ratings they just made Bo #1 for Class of 26. Flo is a joke. Bo is going to be good. I wish him nothing but the best. But it won't be the Brands that makes him better! Good thing he is self motivated!

In an odd way may help level the playing field. Jax is a must now.
Yes, Jax becomes even more important now. We need a star in the lighter weights. Ross and Jax would be a double bonanza and add Wolbert and anyone else we get would make our 2026 class super. I am taking the loss of Bo much better because the day before we got a potential great HWT. However, if we don't get Jax we won't gain on Penn. St. I do think Bo will be great for Iowa because he is an attacking machine.

Jax is a must! Vilasenor and Sidun in class of 27! Adam Waters would be a great pick up for 84! Missing out on Bo is not that big if DT can land more like Ross. Block was a huge recruit for Iowa too, hopefully it works out better for Bo.

I mean a couple months back I don't think any of us thought we had a chance at Bo. I always assumed he was PSU to lose. So I'm not troubled by him going to Iowa bc it's not PSU. Now Jax has always been one I felt was ours to lose so does the Bo to Iowa help or hurt our changes with Jax?

Someone on here earlier said the staff feels good about their chances with Jax.

In December, we were confident. It moved like the stock market after that and solidified on us.

Then comes a corporate raider with lots of money.

PSU doesn’t have to pay like that and I hope we develop a program that doesn’t have to either. I want to become a place to develop wrestlers not a haven of hired guns that get their s**t pushed in come nationals or a match against PSU.

I’m hoping the program wants the same trajectory too.

We don’t either and most won’t ever.

Bassett made decision and a bet on himself. Not a bad bet, but not a great decision.

PSU pays, everybody pays. The money is the worst motivation when you step on the line.

A couple of the reporters on the Penn State rivals site put out a 30 min podcast last night and said the rumors of Iowa swooping in late with $5 million of NIL are true.

Iowa got played by Bassett's dad. Iowa outbid their own high bid to get Bo. I guess Nicholls felt that he needed to up the offer after the Friday shellacking and then put a deadline on it to stop any more negotiating. I'm pretty sure no one was following Iowa up that flagpole.

This kind of proves you are in an Iowa/wrestling bubble. The notion that Desanto and Spencer's mom are world- wide is silly. No one outside of the wrestling community knows a thing about Austin DeSanto.

I can promise you I don't live an Iowa bubble.

Re: Desanto - ask flo what the numbers and interactions they got if they posted anything Desanto Iowa. So yes, it's been said and its true. Iowa gets a lot of hate. I'd say a lot of it is self-inflicted - but that still counts as how big the brand is.

It SHOULD be PSU, but Carl has (at least until lately) been reticent to embrace becoming a brand and letting anyone or anything "see" the program. I do wonder if the new AD has been pushing Carl behind the scenes to do it though.

I think the need to build a scholarship endowment fund has led to more visibility.

I know when I watched PSU vs Iowa the first thing that popped in my mind was "man I was I was part of the highest paid team in the history of college wrestling so I too could get physically assaulted by PSU."

Honestly though if someone was willing to pay that kind of money for a college wrestler good on that wrestler because I can't think of any college wrestler that is truly worth that kind of money. At most he's worth what 20+ points at nationals? No one wrestler is going to be able to raise a banner by themselves.

This is absolutely correct but I would argue: 1) iron sharpens iron. You want guys like Bo in your room. It brings other guys up and that can’t be measured really; and 2) he will attract other recruits because he has his own brand already. And if he succeeds like we all think this will pay out in a couple years.

Again, you’re correct, but his effect isn’t just his 20 points. Oh and I would argue this isn’t exclusive to Bo. Same can be said about a couple recruits every single year and can be said about transfers. For example, Wyatt’s desire to pin every opponent has had an effect on the whole team.

Yes and no?

One could argue a kid like Bo will pay dividends for decades. He has a large following and they have worked very hard to build an image. Iowa just got a significant boost in their fanbase.

Also, he’s probably worth points for every teammate he has an effect on. So, if he continues the same dominance ( not likely at first) he’s worth 20 points and probably another 2-3 average per guy on the team.

Getting Melvin will be a big piece of the pie too. He’s #1 P4P in next years recruiting class, and looks like he could be a special prospect too. Iowa still has to land him though.

Bo basically said his brothers are coming with him so Melvin and Keegan will almost certainly be Hawkeyes also
Honestly, the only crappy part about not getting Bo for me. Happy for a kid to make the decision he thinks is best for him. But knowing this decision pulls Miller along too kinda sucks haha

Well it makes perfect sense right, Bassett literally said very recently he wasn't deciding til summer.....literally days later he announces he's committing in 2 days, so what changed that suddenly? A big bag with a short deadline, And good on him him for securing the cash, but quit the bs "Iowa was always my favorite and that's where I knew I always wanted to go".

This is no BS. Right before Christmas, I happened to be around a big money Penn St. wrestling booster, everybody here would know the name. He flat told me that “you guys (Oklahoma State) are getting Bo Bassett. True story. He got that from a PSu coach

I didn’t think of that. Meaning that Iowa thinks they were matching other offers and Bo couldn’t say otherwise or risk the deal.

That psu insider think Jax is probably coming to Osu
I've made peace with Jax to OSU because you guys were always in the lead dog position. We gave it a shot but it looks like we fell short. I'm very happy that we got Blaze. Iowa seems very happy with Bo. I know you guys are smarting over Bo a little bit but you can't be unhappy with Ross and potentially Jax in the same week. Those are two awesome gets along with your Christmas gift from Wisconsin in December. Wolbert. By 2028, you'll have a strong, young team built mainly from recruitment under DT. One Bo Bassett can't stop that. Neither will Melvin Miller. On top of that, DT is doing it with integrity and a long term approach. I respect that.

Well I was told here that Iowa has the greatest following in all of collegiate sports so adding one kid is not going to generate any more revenue than they already generate.

I've also yet to see anyone who gets paid at such a higher rate than anyone else on the team ever be a true positive factor for that team. Most likely it becomes an issue in the room and thus divides the team more than brings them together.

Gable is/was the biggest name in college wrestling and I can't recall Minny getting any sort of bump due to his dominance and flare.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a talent like Bo at OSU but my fear was always that at this level there's only so much oxygen in the room and having one kid take up so much of it I think could be detrimental. I could always be wrong and he could be the catalyst to the next Iowa dynasty (although with their coach I just can't see that happening).

Bingo, I believe that 100%, what kills me is all these naïve people that think money wasn't the reason he went to Iowa.....it was 100% the reason. Claiming he always wanted to go to Iowa since he was a little kid...LOL...I'm sure the kids in the iowa room may have a sour taste in their mouth knowing this much money was just given to a high school junior.

I’m disappointed that won’t get to cheer this kid on in Orange, but if he’s as good as we think he could be, we may be cheering him on for a long time in Red white and blue.

I think it’s important that the love is starting to spread to other schools outside of PSU. I don’t think PSU is getting weaker by any means, but other schools are beginning to get stronger with some potential generational talents. Bo and Melvin to Iowa and Lockett, and possibly Jax to OSU could really make for some interesting years ahead.
