Bo knows football...Rick Cleveland apparently does not.

Despite the fact that Jacksonville State is a I-AA school, and Ole Miss had not lost to a lower division school since 1945, Rick informs us that the JSU debacle was in fact NOT Ole Miss's worst loss ever. That would be according to him.....drum roll please................1970 vs USM. I wonder why he choose that game. (cough, homer, cough) Of course, he managed to mention that Archie Manning was on that Ole Miss team that year. His "reasoning" was that USM was worse than Jacksonville State is now. Uh....apples and oranges.

It was completely laughable and predictable. The only reason to read his column is for the unintentional comedy of lunacy.

Coming soon to a news stand near you......Why Houston Nutt shouldn't be fired or shouldn't fire Tyrone Nix.

Cam Newton is going to be a dominant player for Auburn. He is an absolute beast. I can't think of any player Auburn has had since Bo that will make as much of a difference for them at the college level than Bo did. And he's right about Jacksonville St. too. That loss wasn't as bad as the 1970 loss to USM was. At the time, USM wasn't any more a national player than JSU is now, but UM was ranked in the top 5 in the nation. UM had realistic hopes for a national title. Then they lost to USM, Vaught had a heart attack and Archie broke his arm. Not to mention that the 1970 loss was to an in-state school. That loss was worse than Jackie's 98-99 teams losing toBelhaven would be. And not even on the same scale as UM's loss to Jacksonville St. was.

Here's a prediction: If Newton stays healthy, when Auburn and Alabama play on Nov. 26, it will be for the SEC West championship. And another: State's going to win a big one here soon. The Bulldogs are due.

and the only reason that they were rated that high was because of the urban legend that was Archie Manning- a QB that never lead his team to a season better than 8-3, and had more INT's than TD passes in college. That same team lost to MSU as well- without Archie to be fair. But if they were that great of a team, they should have been able to lose Archie and still been able to beat a team like MSU. Heck, those Ole Miss teams of that Manning era only went 1-1-1 against MSU which royally sucked then with Charley freaking Shira. One of their "legendary games" was a loss to Alabama.

No way that loss to USM was worse than Ole Miss losing to JSU. First of all, Ole Miss has a definate advantage as far as depth because they have more scholarships than JSU. They're a BCS conference team. JSU is getting leftovers. Ole Miss and USM could have in theory had the same amount of scholarship players in 1970. USM was still a D-I team, even though, yes, they were at a lower tier than Ole Miss. But still D-I. But like I said, it's apples and oranges because we're talking about 40 years between games.

But here's why the JSU loss was worse- have you talked to an Ole Miss fan lately? The ones that I have talked to are avoiding football talk pretty much all together. It's like their season is already over. The morale of their fan base has been dropped to zero. In this era of technology, that play- the two point conversion- is going to be played over, and over, and over ad nauseum. Heck, the talking heads at ESPN are already calling it "the game of the year". This game is not something that is going to go away for awhile- especially this year. The only time I ever hear about that loss to USM is when Rick Cleveland brings it up.

I'm telling you the Southern Mississippi loss is by far the worst. JSU is just another bad loss in 40 years of bad losses, moral victories interspered with the occasional big win. The hype for 1970's team meant nothing less than an SEC championship and a possible national championship. JSU just a burst of a balloon. The Southern Miss loss was like watching the Hindenberg go down.

a 6 foot 6 in, 250 lb. man that can run like a tailback. He is a freak of nature. He also appears to be a fierce competitor.

Just get to the bowl, baby. Even if it's just Memphis, Alcorn, UAB, Houston, Kentucky and Ole Miss. I'd rather be consistent than to get upset, upset someone, etc. That type of pattern leads to fanbase lunacy.

But if we're going to recall his most memorable misses, I'm going with his support for Larry Templeton. He wrote at length about the growth of MSU during the LT administration, never once pointing out that a rising tide lifts all the ships without discrimination on the seaworthiness of each particular ship.

Fast forward a couple years. Wonder if he still thinks we should have kept Larry. We've done better as a program in the last 2 years than we had in the previous 12.

Honorable mention to Rick's defense of Ron Polk.

If we don't have 5 wins when we get to Oxford, it's pretty meaningless to me this year.

I can.

Jason Campbell, Ronnie Brown & Cadillac Williams. That's just 3 off the top of my head.

Newton just lead his team to a 3 point victory over a bottomtier SEC school, yet suddenly you & Rick Cleveland think he's the equal to Bo Jackson? Stick to "Ole Miss will win theirfirst 5 games." It has more of a ring of authenticity.

And he's right about Jacksonville St. too. That loss wasn't as bad as the 1970 loss to USM was.
No,he's not right about Jacksonville State too.

Even after their historical victory over OM, I stilldon't know who Jacksonville State really is.

But even in 1970, USM had a history of winning...and even winning a big game every once in a while.

IfOle Miss gets beat 10 years in a row by Vanderbilt or New Mexico State, that's still doesn't compare to getting beat once by Jacksonville State.

on the college level.

I agree about Jxville State. But wow, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that Rick Cleveland is stupid.
