Why? Surely he doesn't need the money and his heirs would have received the value stepped up to FMV, along with what I suppose is a butt-load of royalty income every year. Plus, Bob is, what, 75+ years old. Not like he's going to go crazy and blow a bunch of cash in the next few years living high on the hog (higher?).

I can't understand how it could be worth millions and millions, hell we have all heard his music for 50+ years now. I saw where Stevie Nicks did the same. I guess Landslide will now be a jingle for commercials.

Commercial jingles, movie and TV soundtracks... they'll part it out like an old car and make a ton in royalties for years to come.

Still, I think he made out like a bandit.

My guess is Dylan received an offer he couldn't refuse, one that values his catalog much more than projected future revenue stream, so an entity can claim exclusive rights to his catalog.

Here's an article that explains what is going on: The Song Catalog Bonanza of 2000

Maybe he didn't think his family would be able to hang on to the rights for some reason and decided to get money for them now while he is still alive. Easier to dole out the money how he sees fit than something like song rights.

Does he even talk to his kids? I do not like that guy...I don’t get his stuff, and I don’t understand the people who do. I stand by my position...if not for psychedelic drugs, he never would have sold a single record.

His song writing was his genius and a lot of entertainers used his material to sell millions of records. I hated his voice but some of his songs were brilliant when other sang them.

His legacy should be as a song writer.

It wasn't even his voice that bothered me. When I saw him Willie Nelson opened. Willie played a bunch of his hits. At one point he said "Hey I just put out a new album, does anyone want to hear it?" and the crowd just went "NOOOO!!!!!!" and he said "GOOD, I didn't want to play it anyway.

Dylan came out and played a bunch of new songs that no one knew. He ended with "mr Tambourine man" but he played it totally different than you've ever heard. Then he played "All Along the Watchtower" but his band played it like the Hendrix version. Also he never touched a guitar. He played keyboards all night and a harmonica a couple of times

See I think he sounds fine here. No he isn't the best singer but it matches the tone perfectly.

I would imagine of all of his writing and recording this one would be Number One. He was unique, no doubt about it. I personally enjoyed Johnny Cash singing his songs. I agree with you this is Bob Dylan at his best.

jealous man. I'm a youngin. He died when I was in college. That is when I started getting in to him.

I've said this many times and still bring it up with my mom. She was born in 1952. Imagine all of the acts she could have seen in her time. The only concerts she has been to are America, The Osmonds, and The Beach Boys (without Brian Wilson)

I first saw Johnny Cash in concert in 1958, then 1967, 1969 and finally 1975. My favorite sound was in 1958 when he had himself, a lead guitar and stand up bass. Luther Perkins was his guitarist and he made the Sound of Johnny Cash. He died in a house fire after falling asleep smoking a cigarette.

Maybe Dylan hates his family and he’s just gonna give the money away so that they can’t have any.

My favorite song of his is Jimi Hendrix doing like a rolling stone, also love his version of all along the watchtower.

You've got to remember, every time one of his songs gets played on the radio, he gets paid. I'm also assuming his albums still sell a few hundred thousand a year. Commercials, jingles, etc. I'd be shocked if his revenue stream wasn't $2+ million annually from his catalog. Maybe even a lot more.

Why did he do it? Hmmmm...

Yeah, Bob might be 75+ years old...but hookers and blow didn’t get any cheaper as he got older.

So yeah, ima go with hookers & blow as my final answer.

If hookers are involved, I'm guessing some of that cash will be used to buy Viagra by the caseload.
