Bob Stoops did some horrible coaching late in their game last night...

Down 9, he goes for two and doesn't get it. I just don't agree going for two because if you don't get it, you make it a 2 possession game. Go for 2 on the last possession. Just kind of takes the wind out of your sails after you score a TD to get back in the game.

Then he punts it with 2 minutes and change left down 2 possessions. I didn't see how many timeouts they had left though.

...but I think that Stoops was conceding the game by punting and wanted the score to look somewhat closer and not take a big hit in the polls. I agree that he should have just kicked the extra point instead of going for two though-- that's where he made the mistake.

I want to know as soon as possible how the 2-point conversion is going to work out so I know how to play the last few minutes of the game. I do agree about punting with 2 minutes left. But I think Maroon Eagle is right, he was conceding the game at that point. </p>

....because you can make the hole deeper for yourself by doing that. If you're down nine, going for one keeps it one possession. You're still in the game. If you go for two and don't get it, you're down two possessions and game likely over.

it's a hell of a lot better than going for 2 down 2 with 10 seconds left and missing it. I'd much rather know that I had to score twice with 3 minutes left than find it out with only 10 seconds left. No matter when you go for 2, if you miss it, you're going to have to score twice. I'd rather know that sooner when I have a chance to do something about it than wait until the game is over and I can't do anything about it.

going for 2 and not getting it with that little of time left totally deflates your team. I would much rather know and my team know all we need is a stop and we have a very good chance of tieing the game.

You have to go for it. Game over if you don't. And then you pull off Stanford-Cal laterals for no purpose other than to risk injury? Stupid.
