Nice post Shey, and let me throw Knox into the picture in case we get him.How does that impact things at the Three? Can we keep everyone happy???

I keep forgetting about O'Connell and he's a player. I do it I guess because we don't talk about him enough. I know he needs weight on his frame but he can play.
If Dukes guards commit on defense and all this hinders on " if" Duval comes. Imo yes.
Knox and White manning the three would be lovely.
Let's say Duke doesn't land Knox and Allen/Luke go pro. Then it's traditional ball imo. Bolden/Big V, Carter/Javin,Allen/White,Jackson/Trent and Duval/Jackson.
I know that's eleven players take away Duval that's ten and take away Grayson that's nine.
Nine players worthy of " competing" for time.

I know this thread is about Bolden staying, and I'm glad he is, but does anyone see playing time problems if things go like most want them to? Say Allen stays, Duval and Knox come, add Jackson, then throw in the other returning players with the commits already signed. I'm just asking.

Yes Tatum was the worst 4 but he still was a great player. That just wasn't the position for him. I don't think spacing would've been something we couldn't overcome. In 2015 we played 2 bigs that couldn't do much outside the lane and it worked out fine. We literally rotated lance and zoubek for the plumlee brothers. Only time we went with Kyle at the 4 was at the end when we had to have ball handlers and free throw shooters. Having too many guards is actually bad for Duke because the focus is solely on the perimeter. I think with time Giles and Bolden would've gotten comfortable. They didn't have a chance though. The guards hardly ever fed them.

That 2010 year was a little different offensively from all the other Duke teams of late. They didn't have great post scoring or spacing. I guess the difference would be they didn't have other guards who were arguably better options. iirc Dawkins was about the only backup guard on that team so Singler had to play guard, which was good for him and the team, compared to years prior to that. Recent teams have had the guard talent to really space the floor though. Again it goes back to playing big or small... obviously you can win either way...2010 or 2015 as examples. In the end it takes some luck and other factors to have end perfectly.

Mac nothing wrong w/asking!! I was wondering same thing which is why I asked Shey. Say we land Knox, Duval and Gray stays....I am just thinking out loud here, but does this put Frank and Trent Jr for instance in 6th and 7th man roles? Are they content w/those roles?

Btw I know its a Bolden thread and I am thrilled he's returning! It may lessen any possibility of getting Bamba, but I think we see an improved and hard working Ques next yr!

I bet Carter and Bolden play together in the paint, and then Trent comes off the bench assuming Allen and Duval are there.....then Jav and Vrank back up Carter and Bolden. If Knox comes, Frank slides to the bench OR Knox is 6th man.

One and dones have to earn starters minutes at Duke. That's a good thing. If one of these 5 stars doesn't like the time they earn, they have three choices: improve, wait or leave.

Well they don't exactly owe anyone a statement. They're both gathering information and when both feel ready to make a statement they will. Hart is correct on his thoughts tomorrow.

The point of them pushing back the date is for people like this. Just say you're entering without an agent and collect all the info you want. That's why Kentucky pretty much enters everyone just to get info. Plus it's just holding up these recruits.

glad to see the kid is staying. hopefully he will contribute in a real positive way.

i would like to see Duke limit the one and done recruit. Prefer the 3 and 4 year guys.
