Of any Duke team I've seen, this one did the most passing around the perimeter I've ever seen. There were rarely any entry passes and all year. And if there were entries, they turned immediately into kickouts.
Maybe this was by design. Maybe K saw that he either didn't have the targets underneath or the guys throwing the passes couldn't do it off the drive, but we just didn't do it. DT began to drive and kick which is more typical of past Duke squads, but the fact remains that there wasn't much team passing.
So you may be right about Derryck, but he was touted throughout high school as one of the passers in any class and you can see that if he has lanes and targets, why that might be. But he had some struggles and maybe K simplified it all for him.
We don't really throw any post entry passes, because Marshall/Jeter are our only post players. And I love Marshall as much as anyone, but he has zero back to the basket game. His game is much more reliant on someone driving and dishing to him for a dunk, or an offensive rebound/putback.
Outside of our defensive rebounding woes, the thing that drives me the most crazy about this team is that we barely get any easy baskets. Seriously, when we play top-level competition, we have to work our tails off on offense to get a good shot (thank god this team can shoot) but then the opposing team will make 2 passes inside and get an easy dunk or alley oop.
