I'll say it aGAIN- he may be good, but he needs a year to sit...no need wasting a RS if we can help it

And to think, we had idiot fans who were scared to get rid of the bufoon of a coach that left us with no QB depth

daily threads on Russell's freshman mistakes?

You think he should redshirt, that's established now. I think he should too, unless his talent is such that it gives us our best chance to win.

Mullen is going to do what he wants anyway, let's just drop it.

I feel like Mullen is going to do what's best for the team.

If Mullen feels like Russell gives us the best shot to win, I'm sure he'll play. If I had my drouthers, Lee would be adequate and we could RS Russell.

I won't criticize Mullen if he burns Russell's RS unless Lee proves that he can play and do well. In that case there's no reason to burn it.

I just don't think it will happen. I don't think Lee or Relf will be able to A. Get it done or B. Stay healthy.

I'm wondering if he wants to get him some reps, or wants to wait and try to hold him out as long as he can.

which I'm sure Mullen knows better than me. I've heard two things there- one about the rule where you can still RS if you play in less the so many games or whatever, and I've also heard that once you hit the field, it's burned.

It also depends on how well Lee plays. I think if he looks a little ragged against JSU, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If Lee looks really good, I would try to hold him out.

Quarterback is just one of those positions- like o-line- where it helps to have a little bit of maturity and having been in college for a year. I would hate to mortgage that on one game that we're likely going to win going away.

So, if Mullen can get him in the game and still keep his RS, I'm all for it.

Right now, I'm just praying that Tyson Lee can perform. I've just seen bad things happen too many times- Omarr Conner, for example.

No, I'd give all those game reps to Relf since he'll most likely be our #2, and he needs them too. If Lee gets hurt then Russell can take some reps.

For a regular redshirt, if you even step on the field to start 1 play (even if a time out is called and you don't go back out for the play after the time out), you can not redshirt. No exceptions.

For a medical redshirt, as long as you haven't played in more than 30% of your team's games and haven't played at all past the halfway point of the season, you can get a medical redshirt for a documented medical injury.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he's in a new offense. But from seeing him in the Crooms Coast Offense and in the spring game in the new offense, he still can't consistently complete a pass beyond 10 yards. That doesn't bode well when you play 8 games in the SEC and also an ACC opponent.

Unless Mullen believes that Russell can help this team win this year, I would redshirt him. If necessary, I would put Bumphis in the "Wildcat formation" and run misdirections like the offence that Meyer ran at Utah. I saw Bumphis play for Tupelo and this is not that wild an idea.

I think it's in basketball where they can play a little the first few games and still get a RS.

I saw him play QB for Tupelo against Madison Central when Garrett had appendicitis. He can sling it around a little bit.
