After Williams tackled Sopko out of bounds at the Raider 31, Joliet Catholic (6-4) drove to the 19. With :16 left, John Cerri barely missed on a 36-yard field-goal attempt.

"It missed by the width of this football," said the official who stood behind the goal posts. Interestingly, the Memorial Stadium field in Joliet uses college goal posts, which are six feet narrower than the high school version.

"It was too close," Williams said. "It could've gone either way."

I took off school that day as a kid to watch that game. it was an awesome wednesday afternoon. I have little doubt in my mind that kick was good. ask bones.

the real **** of it was those posts.

I think that JCA team beats Belv down state. That Brook team was a nightmare, but we matched up very well against them...Belv was a terrible match-up for Brook because Belv had a 125 nose tackle who was disrupted the speed option on every down. Funny to think that a 125lb nose tackle could do that.

So Bolingbrook played JCA on a Wednesday afternoon? And then played a quarter or semi game 3 days later?

During freshman history class, in the 1993 5A playoffs portion of the curriculum we are taught that the FG had no chance, at least a Pippen's arm length away. Does JCA make it downstate if they win that game though? That was the Provi loss before they started "The Streak" and we almost ended that same playoff streak in '98 (MC had beaten them in the reg season).

oh yeah..those were the fun days. Wednesday day game, round 1; Saturday game, round 2; Friday game, round 3.

As a player, I loved the Wednesday. We also played the Brook Wednesday my senior year. Thankfully, a different outcome. Back then you would play week 9 game on Friday, first round game on Wed and then round 2 on Friday. 3 games in 7 days!
