when Masoli decided to transfer.... Are you kidding me????

"Our appeal is simple," said Boone. "We cannot find, nor has the NCAA
staff given us any case precedence, to support these two reasons they
gave us. ... There is no requirement that says the student athlete has
to be in good standing with the athletic team, just the university. ...
The staff attempted to determine when Jeremiah started thinking about a
transfer. I think this is a difficult for anyone, even David Blaine, to try to accomplish."

<p class="inside-copy">The NCAA gave two reasons for the denial, according to Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone.</p><p class="inside-copy">"First was that Jeremiah would have not been
eligible for the 2010 season at his previous institution (Oregon),"
said Boone. "The second was the time frame discrepancy between the
previous institution and Jeremiah regarding when the institution said
they dismissed Jeremiah and when he decided to transfer."</p>

<p class="inside-copy">Boone said the school has appealed the decision.</p><p class="inside-copy">"We had to get it in by 1 p.m. today in order to hopefully get a ruling by Friday by the subcommittee of appeals," said Boone.</p>

Boone really has not been paying attention to the NCAA lately, & the same quote was in the Clarion Ledger yesterday

"Our appeal is simple," said Boone. "We cannot find, nor has the NCAA staff given us any case precedence, to support these two reasons they gave us.
if anything that the NCAA has proven through the years, is that their precedence is everything is done on a case by case basis, & one will never be able to find any parity in their decisions.

There is no requirement that says the student athlete has to be in good standing with the athletic team, just the university.
but it sure wouldn't hurt things, now would it, if the athlete was in good standing w/ the previous team.......at minimum it would have made the transfer due to a graduate program seem more believable.

The staff attempted to determine when Jeremiah started thinking about a transfer. I think this is a difficult for anyone, even <font color="#660000">David Blaine</font>, to try to accomplish."
Well that was real smart Pete, go ahead & make a mockery of the NCAA fact finding abilities, they will really appreciate that, & I am sure they will remember it also.

My bottom line......you shouldn't have thrown a press conference w/ Boone, Nutt, & Masoli all crying about it (Surprised me that Dan Jones was not there). You drew attention to a matter that you really didn't need to draw attention to in that manner. UM should have put out a simple press release w/ a few vanilla quotes from the parties involved, & gone on about your business. Your presser makes it look as though the big bad wolf (NCAA) just blew your house down, & I don't think they will be to appreciative about that. You threw all your eggs in one basket behind ONE player, & the NCAA said NO, & I think your presser all but proved you knew you were skirting in a grey area of the rule

Nutt's quote about being in the "people helping business" wow, just wow. I too am surprised there were no tears
