mrschwump, I assume you are directing this at my remarks. I believe he did. However, what kind of knowledge and input would/does Couch have on contracts, etc.? Plus he probably had to work within certain criteria he was told were must haves. I am not siding on either side of one Bobby Petrino - but we know that he was never going to be hired here - even though he might have been the one to lead the team to a SEC Championship or more. My point is, a football only responsbile guy would focus his ENTIRE time on making football the best. It may not have occurred to many people - but how many sports does the AD now overlook? Plus the job has grown into so much more than it used to be - it has to be competitive. Mitch Barnhart and probably most AD's don't have the necessary time to do the best for all sports.
Now let's look at one other thing. Seriously, how much of the income and expenses does the football generate and cost? Think about that fact? If you were the CEO of a big company that made many products - where would you focus your attention? The time has come for UK to make a move on this. At least from my perspective - UK has finally taken the steps facility wise to make UK football relevant.
I like to compare things to the purchase of a 747 airplane. I think it is an easy thought comparison as to what to do. Let's hire a captain with experience to fly the plane -and not try to train our Cessna Piper pilot to fly it! We can't afford to trash it or leave it grounded while the pilot learns how to take it off and fly in bad weather.
Go Big Blue!
