Nap Central looks like the most complete team of the 4 in the bottom half. For that I say they get downstate.

Marist will score 50+ again at Oswego and make for a really good semifinal with NC.

HF/Loyola winner won't be tested again after this weekend. .

Marist and Naperville Central played a hell of a semifinal game two years ago.

I'd like to see a rematch of that thriller.

Br. Rice will be a test for whoever wins in Wilmette.

If Rice can beat Palatine, I think they have a chance against Loyola or HF
Rice had a lot of factors go against them in the first meeting against Loyola

Rice barely beat South Elgin and while South Elgin looked pretty good, Rice left a good amount of points on the field and put themselves behind the 8 ball. This was similar to last year's first round game where Rice made too many mistakes. They continue to make mistakes and bad decisions at the worst of times. They could have the best offense in the state.

Rice's defense has lost some players as have most teams but this would keep them from challenging Loyola, IMHO.

Rice definitely left points on the board but S. Elgin was a good team, consider the best team in school history.
Mistakes are going to happen but if you are able to overcome them and win games that is a sign of good team maybe even a great team. Defense hasnt been healthy as season but 10-1 is pretty good in my book. They will get up and come out fired up against Loyola/HF just as they did against MC and make a game of it. thats my thought

I know its a huge longshot but a brother rice versus Marist 8a title game would bring ruckus to the Southside of Chicago. Especially the year that they couldn't continue the rivalry based on the seating situation. The over under on this game would have to be set at 150, neither team likes playing defense.

It wasn't the seating situation, that was an excuse to replace Rice with an easy win aka DuSable.
What's does your username mean?

You are right it would be pretty cool to see that game. Definitely a shot in the arm to the IHSA with two catholic schools a mile apart making it to the state game. My guess would the multiplier would go up 2pts.

They didn't replace Rice with DuSable, they were on the schedule last year. The BR game was replaced by MC at Soldier Field. So much for an "easy win" scheme? I understand Rice ended up being pretty damn good this year but I don't think many people saw that coming. BR set up the game against the Michigan Rice school while the debate over seating was going on, then used that whole narrative to make people think Marist dropped out. Bologna. The game was supposed to be at Marist this year...any issues with the seating at Rice (which really is a joke) would have taken place next year. Marist responded by scheduling the MC game, at the time they were anticipated to be the much better team. I know it doesn't sound as convincing given how the season played out but that was the story.

If winning state is a school's priority, there is no benefit for Marist and Rice to play one another. While the rivalry is great, it causes an already tough conference schedule to become tougher. If Rice has Montini and Marist as OOC opponents (Montini is not a crossover) Rice could have 6 games v teams that could compete for state on their schedule and I am not considering B-Mac or Laurence to be one of. It does not take much of a slip in performance to go 4-5 with a decent team.

MC last season and Marist this season were one play away from being on the outside of the state playoffs and each could very well end up in the semifinals, as MC was last season.

Rice replaced Marist with Crete not necessarily a cake walk.

You couldn't be more wrong. Marist won't renew the game unless it was played at Marist every year, that's what they brought to the table. The Marist/Rice game could be played either the first or second week of the season.

Marist 100% dropped out

I completely agree but I'm not sure the visitors stands at SXU are up to par for all the seating snobs on this site

Sounds like you're an insider...maybe you're a coach. If Marist brought the seating issue to the table, what did BR respond with then?....besides we're going to play someone else. This could've been worked out.

SXU may have less seating in total but I think it is more evenly distributed for home and visitor and you could stand. I find it comparable to a St Rita set up in regard to larger crowds.

You notice the location of next year's game is still up in the air.

I believe the starting QB's for both teams played in the same backfield in grammar school which would have made for a great story this year.

Marist 100% dropped out
Marist agreed to continuing the rotating home fields as it has been in past as long as Rice got more visiting bleachers for this game. Marist offered to pay for the additional bleachers as well. Sticking student sections on that hill behind the one end zone is clearly dangerous as Marist student broke leg last year. I know people close to both sides of this one at rice and one at Marist. They both said it was sad these seniors don't get to play but neither put the blame on the other school. Best of luck to both teams the rest of the way. I like badke and dunne, and what they have done with there programs.

Very few agreed when I said LA presents match up problems for anyone, their size/ talent parallels most division 1 college teams. They spread you out, and toss it up to Esho and Smart, who both go 6'5 and 6'3" respectively. Curious to know your thoughts after Saturday...
