</div><div>I realize that we don't have the facilities for a bowl game, unless they use the college campuses. You still wouldn't have hotel space using campuses. You could do it in Jackson but now that JSU ownsVeterans Memorial I don't think it will happen there. Will we ever get a bowl game in "Our State"?</div><div>

Veterans Memorial is WAY outdated to try and attract a new bowl game. IF we were to get the bowl, it would be a game between teams like Arky State and USA. They would probably name it "The Magnolia B"....errr, wait that is already taken. Sorry.

honest question, would you travel from out of state to MS for a bowl game? i wouldn't. louisiana has new orleans, texas has multiple major cities, bama has b'ham (not a great, or even good city imo, but puts anything in MS to shame), tenn has memphis and nashville, georgia has atl, and florida has multiple big cities and is a popular holiday/winter vacation spot anyway. sure maybe if jackson spruced up the vet we could have a gmac (mobile) crap bowl i guess that brings maybe 5000 people in. even shreveport sucks, but the independence bowl has been around for decades, so it has some history to it.

also, not sure a bowl can be held in MS due to the ncaa rules regarding the confederate flag issue? though bowls aren't ncaa events, i think they do have to get approval. we can get around it in some cases, like baseball, where the regionals are merit based. i'm not 100% sure on all the details though.

but ultimately, i just don't think it'd be viable, and you'd be looking at a 4th or 5th c-usa team v. a 3rd-5th sun belt team, so not exactly a prime bowl matchup.

did you not see where i specifically pointed out mobile and shreveport as the 2 comparable cities? and point out that the independence bowl has been around for decades (35 years, just looked it up), so it has some history? and point out that the gmac bowl (or whatever it is) barely draws a crowd and a new MS based bowl would fall in line behind them in the pecking order for 6-6 teams from 3rd tier conferences? cause i'm pretty sure i pointed that out, at least implied it by singling out those 2 bowls and commenting on the quality of teams that could be expected.<div>
</div><div>but ultimately, there don't need to be more bowls. western kentucky was the only team left out this year and that was because ucla got a waiver to play in a bowl as a 6-7 team that lost their conf CG. a MS bowl isn't gonna make MS look any better or worse, and probably would cost the state money (lack of attendance) while lining the pockets of the sponsors through an espn contract.</div>

Mississippi is the only state that doesn't qualify for a bowl game, regardless of us not having facilities or a means to host one. Per NCAA rules, any state that has the rebel flag in the state flag OR flies the rebel flag at the capital is not eligible for post season play. South Carolina became eligible a couple seasons ago when they stopped flying the flag at the capital building. Mississippi remains the last one. For some reason this doesn't include baseball. Obviously the NIT isn't an NCAA function so us hosting UNC wasn't a conflict a couple seasons ago.

But I do agree, a bowl in Gulfport or Biloxi would make a lot more sense than Jackson. And it'd be eerily similar to the GMAC Bowl between two garbage teams.</p>

well, it can't apply to baseball because those regionals are performance determined or early nit games which are also performance baased. MS can't host pre-planned ncaa events, like ncaa tournament games and bowl games or like a national championship track meet or golf tourney. <div>
</div><div>also fwiw, the ncaa bought out the nit a few years back when the nit was threatening an antitrust lawsuit against the ncaa. it's why the nit is moreorganizednow, withactualseeds and a selection show and everything. but again, those early games are hosted by the higher seeded teams, so they are not subject to the ncaa rule regarding the flag.</div>

There are so many things that could help the State of Mississippi by getting rid of the confederate **** on official stuff it's almost comical. For a state that needs all the help it can get currently, we should change the state flag to a big *** dollar sign if it meant getting more funds and events in the state from removing boycotts. Not to mention they'll keep making race related movies based in the state until we clear that part of our image up as well.

Yes, but not technically. It's for postseason events scheduled. After the rule was set into place, we hosted a super regional and fans of the rule bitched and moaned about us hosting a postseason event in Mississippi. The NCAA ruled that super regionals sites are determined based on performance blah blah blah. We couldn't technically hold a Final Four either, which would obviously never happen.

The NCAA knew that Mississippi was never going to hold a postseason event in a nationally publicized sport like basketball or football so they took the oppurtunity to make a rule to show their strong stance on anti-racism, but in a sport like baseball where we a) hold considerable political power in Templeton b) are a nationally recognized program, they looked past it and later ruled it was allowed.

i don't think it's necessarily political. there is logic behind thedifferentiationof merit based hosting and a pre-organized national event hosting. in baseball, and the nit, and used to in women's basketball, teams host postseason games because they were higher seeded. to prevent a MS team from hosting based on the politics of the state when the team has earned that right by their performance and many of the players have no control over the state politics, it would be unfair to take away their regional or nit home games. however, events like bowl games and ncaa tournament locations benefit the state economy and politicians more than the players for the state universities. in this case, MS wasn't going to host a bowl or ncaa tourney anyway, so it is kinda an empty ban, but the ncaa was able to make their position known while still rewarding the teams that earned those home games. if CFB ended up moving to a playoff system where the higher seeded team hosted a playoff game, we'd be able to host it because we earned that game on the field.

I've never agreed with anything more in my life. Whether you believe it's "heritige not hate" or not, if it offends someone.. as it truly does for many Mississippians... change it. It's just a flag, and not even the original flag. The choices they gave us 10 or so years ago were awful. To be honest I'd be more embarrassed of the flag chosen to replace the current one.

To get rid of the current flag and the "heritage not hate" yahoos, they just need to offer to change the flag back to the original:

It's not worth the billions of dollars we've missed out on in tourism and industry. Foreign companies such as car plants and fortune 500 companies won't establish a business in a town with race relations (you industrial engineers know the prep school rule I'm assuming) and it just makes us look bad... who wants that? </p>

But seriously, there is no where to play a bowl here. Though with the teams we'd draw, old Yankee Stadium in Biloxi may be big enough to host the 10's of fans that would show up.
