@NYC-Husker, the BTN has hyped up Nebraska since we've joined. And to be honest, it's not a coincidence DiNardo is in the studio and not on a sideline. He's the last dude I listen to on the BTN.

Big gets in recruiting are only part of the discussion, how have they transformed since arriving on campus? IMO, Lewis is the only ome you mentioned that seems to either remain the same or slightly improve. Personally, I like the younger group much more than the older group just for the fact they're in better hands now (Phillip v Dobson) with an opportunity to maximize their abilities. That's something I was concerned with after year 1 with Dobson.

Take Newby as an example. Open field, see Minnesota game, goodbye. Not open field, see Io_a game, cuts right into the *** of an OL instead of reading it the other way. @kaz36 knows what I'm talking about, the rewind button got worn out on that play. Newby will test extremely well, based on pure athleticism. What the test doesn't tell us is vision and/or anticipation (see Ameer, athletic and had vision/anticipation). And without that, good luck with high production on the field.

As far as our OL, go back and look at any inside screen we ran this year. IMO, you'll see what Epley is talking about.

The steroid discussion doesn't matter at all to the impact of the article. The article compares our current testing versus our previous testing levels. The results are sub par. We don't even know how Boyd evaluates and collects the data sets, ensuring that we can't conclude a causal link between steroids and previous testing results. Hypothetically, even assuming the flawed argument that steroid use = higher test results, it would not discount the fact that our athletes are not conditioned to a championship level. At best one would have to conclude that steroid use = championships if this was the case. This is the very pinnacle of unnecessary cynicism.

Barry Bonds and ARod can only hope your analysis prevails when they are eligible for the Hall of Fame. Of course players who use PEDs would score higher. I can't believe anyone would seriously suggest otherwise.

we finished #15 in 2011 - Pelini who was a bad recruiter averaged a ranking of #21 in his first five classes and this was with him not filling out classes all the way.

Riley is organized and works hard at recruiting - I think we should expect results in the 10-15 range

What do you propose moving forward? Would you like to see this staff terminated the day after Letter of Intent day? Do you want them fired at the end of next year if the team gets blown out by Oregon and tOSU? Do you want them fired at the end of the year if they don't get blown out in any games, but run several bubble screens on first and goal from the 4.? And if they are fired after next year, how do you think the university handles paying two buyouts? I guess I am asking if you are just frustrated and complaining, or if you have thought about a solution.

The thought I had earlier today is I wonder how Bo's camps were structured. If you have a S&C team that has a specific way to measure athletes and compare to historical success now you know whether that player you are evaluating is worthy of a scholarship or a walkon, or pat on the back wishing them luck.

Maybe Bo's staff did the same thing, I have to assume they did, but given our schitzo our recruiting was under Bo who knows.

I hear you talking about how nothing will change... Coaches, style of coaching, etc. you're right, those things won't change. But what I hope and believe will change is the athlete in the system. If we have the players for the system we become a better team already.

The one thing that seems to be missing from you is that this system could be effective with the athletes Riley wants to bring in. Even if coaching doesn't change fundamentally, the right athletes will make us better. You (and others) may not like the system, but not changing things doesn't make us worse.

I suggest the AD get involved and stay involved - If things are not going well next year then he needs to push for some assistant changes. I do believe it is on our best interest to push Riley to succeed. For right now nothing can be done

My hope that recruiting makes all the difference for us is tempered by the experience we had with Callahan - He brought in a lot of talent but since the coaching was lacking it still failed

He didn't coach the final bowl game... But he was interim in 2003 or whenever solich was fired. That's where the missing game came from.

Exactly. We don't have an offensive line that is athletic enough to run a consistent screen game. That and a QB with enough touch to get it to the RB

You said people shouldn't twist the truth. When people say full seasons they talk about calendar years. Throwing in a win from years prior and calling that a full season is as big of twisting as you can get. Over his career, you can say he won 67 games, but you cannot say he won 67 over his 7 years as head coach. Bo Pelini was 66-27 as Head Coach of Nebraska and was the head coach for 7 years.

If you want to use your logic, say he was 67-27 over 8 years, but don't add his bowl win as intern head coach to his 7 years as head coach.

I think we have done a decent job in recent years recruiting Dlinemen, Who cares if they are within the 500 mile radius - I think if we look local we would be better off anyhow - didnt we miss on the evaluations of Bazata and OTT at Iowa

1. We haven't been all that great at pulling DL out of the South, where most of the great ones are.
2. We have been doing well in our backyard, but we have to hope that our backyard continues to pump out high level DL if we want to compete with Southern teams.

Basically we want to avoid a situation where you have 10 years of high level Metro talent (read backyard), which all of a sudden dries up. The 90's to 2000 transition, kind of illustrates that.

So I'm hoping that we continue to see high level DL in the radius, but I'm also hoping we can make inroads "out there" to help stabilize any drought that KC might have.

It's generally accepted that having an AD run a football team, is not the way to go. Riley either succeeds or doesn't on his own merits, but we don't need Eichorst dictating schemes and hires.

At the very most, Eichorst can deliver ultimatums, you've been here 2 years, we've not seen any improvement on the XYZ side of the ball, to justify another year with us/fans/boosters, we need to see changes or we're going to go a different direction. Frank got that, and we fired him anyway.
