It's more that boylan has had to replace several talented coaches. They haven't had a stable coaching staff.looks like Lutheran will have to get some more players for next year because I read their sophs lost 72-13 to Byron

I've heard so many reasons why Boylan is bad. Coaching, lack of talent, or talent either choosing public schools, and or Lutheran. I can say for a fact that Boylan's leading rusher from last year didn't return to the team this year because he didn't like the head coach.

The soph score & record at a small school (in this case, 4A) may not be as relevant. The soph/JV team is often like a farm system for the varsity team. The soph team gets picked over and talent moves up to varsity leaving a shell of a soph team that would have otherwise been competitive.

I can't say that's what is happening at RL but I've seen it plenty at other 3A/4A schools.

Several reasons why, not just one. Kind of a perfect storm of situations in my eyes.

1. Appino left. Football coaching staff is not near it's old level. He also took top assistants with him to Auburn.
2. Goers left. The new bball coach is not recruiting like Goers used to. They used to recruit a ton of basketball talent that also happened to be their football key players. KIds that ended up at the NAIA/D3 level for either Football or Basketball.
3. Economy is down. People can't/don't want to pay tuition anymore. People are choosing public schools instead. Enrollment at Boylan is down, just like a lot of catholic high schools in the greater Chicagoland area.
4. Public schools have better facilities. Nicer stadiums, nicer weight rooms. Why go to Boylan when I can go play at brand new stadium and weight room?
5. Lutheran is now turning into a destination for top Rockford area kids to go to. They are recruiting a lot of the kids that used to go to Boylan to come play football and basketball there instead.
6. Kids that used to go to Boylan from the west side are now staying home at Auburn.
7. Talent on the football field is way down. From the brief film I've seen this year, this team looks nothing like a Boylan team from 2006-2013. No size, no speed. Boylan teams used to be very, very quick. Not overly fast, but a lot of kids that were good side-to-side and were tough players. Is that because that coaches aren't developing kids, or are kids getting recruited to go elsewhere?

I don't think its one single thing, I think it's a combination of all.

This is mostly accurate. I disagree with #2 a little bit, but the rest is spot on.
