Basketball will get in the swing of things here soon. I normally follow NPC conference which has these teams in them
Lake Norman, Mooresville, South Iredell, Davie Co, Statesville, North Iredell
As of now I’m not sure who will be the top dog yet. I know Lake Norman lost good many from last year. Also they will have a new Head Coach. From the looks of their roster they appear young but have some decent size. If anyone knows anything about the other teams just weigh in. I feel maybe Mooresville and Statesville could make noise. Looking forward to the season to start. But I’m not looking forward for football to end. lol

I don't know too much from the outside looking in but, Page returns 11 of 13 players from last years roster. They were pretty young last year with 6 sophomores and 5 juniors on the team. 6'7 255lb Junior Center Mason Duggins is anchoring the line up, he is also one of the Offensive Tackles on Page's football team. It'll be interesting to see what they can do @ Greensboro Day School (#27 nationally) first game of the season (11/25). They play @ West Forsyth early too (12/5). Two tough road games. Little known fact, Greensboro Day school is within Page's district lines.

Davidson Day will be a team I will be keeping an eye on. Roster shows several players at the height of 7’0, 6’11, 6’10. All I can say is wow.

New Hanover lost 3 really good players from a team that was state runner up the last 2 years. They return several very good underclassmen that made major contributions the last 2 years. One key will be replacing the point guard. They have a senior that got some opportunities last year and he looked pretty good. I have heard they have a transfer from NY but I have no confirmation and no info in the player. The roster is not listed in Maxpreps at this time.

The schedule is loaded. Chambers, Hopewell, Garner, Kinston, Northwood, Independence, S Meck, Myers Park and a Tampa Tournament.

NHHS is well coached and you can expect excellent team defense from the Cats. They may take a lump or two early but they have reloaded and have some very nice players. They need confidence to win without their two undersized seniors from last year that were the pulse of the team.

Davie won at Southeast Guilford 83-73 last night and advanced to 1-0. They play at West Rowan tonight. This is West Rowan's first game; Davie beat a pretty good Southeast Guilford team.

Page was up 12-11 after a quarter against GDS. Then it was all Bengals after that. Very tough first game. That being said, Page held them to one of their lowest point totals so far. Interesting.

Mooresville is rolling this year with a 4-1 record. One loss to a strong North Meck team 73-69. I think Mooresville will be the team to beat in conference. Lake Norman boys has fallen on hard times with a 1-4 record. Different story with LN girls basketball.

With a 80-66 win over Southeast Guilford last night Davie moves to 5-0
They play at 2-0 Reagan tonight, should be a decent game.

Lake Norman gets a surprising win over Mt Tabor 60-50 to go 2-5. They lost to Mt Tabor early in the season 74-44. Not sure what happened in tonight contest but a big turnaround.

I was in attendance last night, Coach sat out two starters for the first half (should have been for the whole game) and the 5 guys that started played like they wanted to be there. Played the coaches game plan and was in the lead entire 1st half.
Second half the team seemed to be a little out of sync with the two "starters" inserted but they maintained the lead most of the half. Coach did, in my opinion, a really good job substituting players to keep a balance and win the game.

Understand that this LN team is NOT CLOSE to last year's team, but they will be competitive most games. They do have two sophomores that have shown lots of potential.

Thanks for the info. I wasn’t there but just saw the score. I yet to go to a basketball game but when I get a chance I will start going. Also what are your thoughts about the new head coach for Lake Norman.

Very intense, very focused, knows his stats (shooting %'s, from where, turn overs, points in paint, etc), very disciplined, wants his players to play within the system and to listen to him. Will not put up with crap from players or their parents.
So far, the main point in this team, in my opinion, is what they lost to graduation and the two starters they lost to the portal (one to Mooresville and one to Davidson Day).
