I know BP is trying to stop the leak, but why aren't they sucking up the oil in the Gulf with Supertankers?

"There's a potential solution to the Gulf oil spill that neither BP, nor the federal government, nor anyone — save a couple intuitive engineers — seems willing to try. As The Politics Blog reported on Tuesday in an interview with former Shell Oil president John Hofmeister, the untapped solution involves using empty supertankers to suck the spill off the surface, treat and discharge the contaminated water, and either salvage or destroy the slick."</p>

Hypothetically the manager of the rig hypothetically told the BP manager the day before that it was going to hypothetically fail and then again the day of explosion the manager told the BP manager that it was going to fail and they argued about it in front of everybody(The arguement is documented).hypothetically the rig manager told the BP manager that they could go done with a small sub and fix it. hypothetically the bp manager didnt want to do this. hypothetically the bp manager said that bp had to be seen in the public eye as the ones who fixed it. hypothetically the rig manager told the bp manager that the funnel fix would freeze up. This is all hypothetical and not approved by bp.
