<font size="2">The wait to see where two of Auburn's top junior college prospects decide to finish their college eligibility continues.
Five-star quarterback</font> <font color="#003366" size="2">Cameron Newton</font> <font size="2">and three-star defensive end/tight end</font> <font color="#003366" size="2">Ken Adams</font> <font size="2">have narrowed their choices down to two SEC schools, but yet to announce which of the schools they plan to sign with.
The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Newton is choosing between Auburn and Mississippi State. Adams, 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, remains committed to Tennessee, but is also strongly considering a switch to Auburn and took a visit to LSU last weekend.
When will they make their finals decisions?
Although a date for either has yet to be set, the two plan to enroll at a four-year school in January. The decisions can't be too much longer. Auburn's junior college signees, four-stars Roszell Gayden and Brandon Mosley, are set to report to campus Jan. 10. I don't think it will take that long for either of Newton or Adams to decide.
Newton left an official visit to Auburn last weekend and said he planned to announce his decision in less than "10 days". That was five days ago. Newton, who led Blinn College to a junior college national championship in the fall, appears set to stay true to that timeline. If Newton hasn't announced by Wednesday (Dec. 30), I don't think it will be too much longer, a day at the most.
Newton is currently working on making his choice between Auburn and Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were heavy favorites to land his signature after he took an official visit to Starkville Nov. 27-29. MSU head coach Dan Mullen recruited Newton to Florida in 2007 and the relationship between the two is the biggest reason State is still in it.
Many people close to Newton felt like after his Mississippi State visit that the Bulldogs would be hard to beat, and they have been, and apparently still are. But Auburn, after his visit to the Plains last weekend, has taken over that top position. Newton has been very quiet since leaving Auburn and has fans from both schools antsy to see where he signs. On Thursday's Hot Board I gave Auburn a 65-35 advantage. I'd probably have it higher today.
A guy that spoke directly to Newton feels the same way. After talking with Newton, the guy didn't give many details about the conversation, but did say, "If I were a betting man, I think I'd put my money on Auburn."
Newton and his father, who is helping in making the most informed and educated decision possible, want to be completely sure of the college choice before announcing it. I think Newton is very high on Auburn. I think his dad just wants him to be sure before signing. That may not take too much longer.
If Newton were to sign with Auburn, the Tigers would have filled the five available slots left over from the 2009 class. Auburn would still take Adams given the opportunity. He would count towards the current class.
