I really hope it's precautionary as far as lindgren goes. We are going to need him. Still think Ross Mitchell logs the most innings for us tomorrow. I hope bracewell comes in and takes hold of Sunday starter though

I hope this is a one week thing...But I think it's a good move based on what we've been given...It's now clear why Bracewell wasn't used on Friday(nor was he even up in the pen). Gentry was a mistake -- but not going to Bracewell now makes perfect sense.

I would love for bracewell to go out and pitch 5. Perhaps he becomes the starter this team has been missing. If he gets us the win tomorrow, the job should be his.

ok- now Friday makes sense

But now we're in a 17'ing fix that our 2 SP's with most ability cant take the mound

Doesn't make sense to me. You don't save a guy when you have a win in your hand. If we use him Friday and win, who cares who starts tomorrow?

because he knew Lindy wasnt going to be able to go- and he already made the decision to start Bracewell in his place. It makes perfect sense- and somebody else had to step into Bracewell's relief role

Because then

We would have to start Cox, Woodruff, or Evan Mitchell- all of whom have not been getting the job done lately. If we win tomorrow, it still comes out to a 2-1 series win- but we would have won Fri. and Sat. instead of Sat. and Sunday. I guess we could have started Ross Mitchell, but he threw a ton of pitches on Tuesday, and odds are pretty good we will need him to throw a ton of pitches on Tuesday again. We also don't have the luxury of Pollorena coming out of the bullpen anymore either. Trevor Fitts is an unknown at this point and he wasn't lights out dominating in one inning against Arkansas, so I don't think any of us could expect a quality start out of him at this point. It would be extremely risky to say the least.

I think Ben can give us five innings at least- and then we can go from there. Ben has started before, and he has a lot of quality experience as a starter.

A better move in hindsight would have been to start Gentry off without anyone on base on Friday. And if Lindgren is out, we need to start using John Marc Shelly more in my opinion as well.

I like this move whether Lindgren could go or not. I don't see any reason to risk losing him even if we lose this series.

I just think that once the game is potentially in hand you play for that win. I understand wanting to save bracewell for Sunday, but what if we lost today? Then we're pitching bracewell to avoid a sweep when we could've won Friday game

I'm hoping for 4 IP out of Bracewell. You dont over-extend someone who hasnt started in quite a long time. We should be able to get 7 out of Bracewell/R. Mitchell- then turn it over to Holder.

Screw Tuesday- we need SEC wins. At some point-the albatrosses of our staff have to log some innings and beat the midweek teams

I agree, although if Gentry starts the inning, not Pollo, it's a different dynamic altogether. The bigger mistake was starting Pollo in the inning.

No doubt we have to be careful with him

I think the longest Ben has gone this year is 2.2, but since we knew early in the week what our situation with Lindgren was, I would have to hope that our staff is already preparing him to transition if we have to do that.

We do need as many SEC wins as possible- no doubt about that. But South Alabama is a top 20 RPI team on the road. Beating them would be a big win for us, and would be as good as any SEC win. So, we need to try to win both if we can.

I wholeheartedly agree that our albatrosses need to start to long some innings. Maybe now that Ammirati has logged three games in a row with Slauter out, we will start Slauter on Tuesday with Woodruff and see what happens.

Yep...

Statistically speaking(rpi-wise), that South Alabama game on the road would be our best win of the season thusfar -- by alot. 0.6win vs RPI #3 at home < 1.4win vs RPI #12 on the road...

Right now, Nolan has updated us to 16-14 SEC and 2-2 in the remaining nonconference. As of today, this would net us a final projected RPI of #8. 16-14 would in all likelihood prevent us from getting a national seed -- but #8 RPI would almost certainly set us up with a nice little regional host site. I see no reason we can't go at least 3-1 in the remaining nonconference...

Win tomorrow and we're sitting pretty good. Win Tuesday and we are back in the driver's seat with controlling our own destiny. We have to get Lindgren and Woody healthy and ready though. I'm afraid Mitchell may be a lost cause at this point...

just looked through Bracewell's career

including his 12.0 IP this season, he has thrown 49.1 IP with 3 starts (all starts came last season)

2010: 5.5 ERA in 18 IP
2012: .93 ERA in 19.1 IP
2013: .00 ERA in 12 IP

That gives him a career 2.38 ERA

55 Ks to 27 BBs

28 H in 166 AB for a BAA of .168

Numbers look awesome really -- just need him to throw strikes tomorrow and I believe we'll be fine...Arky will get themselves out if we just throw strikes.

He started over Stratton last year for awhile too. Still not sure what was up with that

Yep. Kendall showed us today that if you throw down to Arky they'll either chase, swing through, or pound it into the ground. Only 4 of Arky's outs came via the flyball -- 18 were grounders, 5 Ks. Granted, Kendall a sinkerball guy, but he consistently threw down in the zone and got guys out. Ben and whoever else pitches need to do the same

Which is why I believe you'll see Ross Mitchell early. He's very much like graveman. He'll be very effective when he gets in tomorrow

Just logged on and saw this news....I'm pumped.

The main thing Bracewell provides us is that swagger, veteran, mentality that Graveman brought today. Bracewell wants the 17ing ball, and he will gut it out as long as possible tomorrow. If he throws 4-5 strong innings, we may be in business with Lindgren, Graveman, Bracewell for a while on weekends.

I love watching Bracewell pitch, and I'm excited about tomorrow. Who the hell isn't confident when he takes the hill?

Hasn't gone more than an inning all year. Sure hope we don't over-extend him and get him hurt again. We are Emm Stake.

All we need is 3 or 4 innings from bracewell. Ross will carry the load today. Holder to finish it up.

I hate to say it, but I told you so.... I called for Bracewell to start in lieu of Evan Mitchell after the UCA series.

Now we'll get to see how big of a dubmass I am.
