We have quite the favorable draw, while the other side of the bracket is a bit of a gauntlet

1-4-5-8 side (DSR ranking)
  • (2) UNC vs. (18) USC
  • (6) Auburn vs. (15) Ole Miss
  • (8) WV vs. (68) Cal Poly
  • (36) Troy vs. (80) Little Rock
2-3-6-7 side
  • (3) UGA vs. (9) Miss St
  • (5) Texas vs. (14) Oregon
  • (7) Kansas vs. (22) Oklahoma
  • (11) Alabama vs (76) St Johns
We are the best team left. We have the third best matchup (behind only WV and Bama, per DSR +/-). If we win, our Omaha bracket is guaranteed a “bad” team in Troy or LR.

Gotta like our odds, just need to execute

West Virginia really lucked out getting Cal Poly in the Supers (instead of UCLA no less), and then either Troy or Little Rock first game in Omaha. What a path to the winner's bracket in the CWS.

Side note - what a missed opportunity by Kentucky, lol.

It’s funny, I’m MUCH more worried about offensive production than pitching. I don’t think USC has faced arms like ours very often.
This is the concern (and it happened last year in G3 vs Zona).

Offense couldn't get the big hit. It was trending that way through the first few innings in the 1-0 game vs ECU until Colin's blast. We gotta get hits early. The longer you stay in a tight game, the more the pressure builds and the more USC (who is already playing with house money) gains increased confidence.

All true, but we would be in that same 4-team pod in Omaha. I’ve complained about Auburn being overseeded. Given that, I like our setup of facing them or Ole Miss in the first game at full strength. Then, as you say, WVU or Troy/Little Rock in game 2/winners bracket. Between TAMU getting bounced in the regionals and the CWS outlook, we got about as good a draw as could be hoped for. Definitely can’t sleep on USC, though.
