I'm not an NBA watcher.

But caught something on ESPN today that said Boston had won 9 of their last 10 games, and were a 3 seed in the playoffs as of right now.

So just how good are the Celtics and how good of a pro coach is Stevens?

Celtics are good because Stevens is great.

Stevens is certainly making the best of the talent that he has. Look out in the future because the C's have a bunch of first round picks stashed from the Garnett trade.

Doesn't matter he'll be moving to the Ville to take over for Pitino soon. He's just waiting for Tommy Turtleneck to call and make the offer. Signed- Idiot UofL fans.

Real answer: he's one hell of a coach.

Great coach. Guys like Haralabob love him. The roster is probably a bit underrated. It's deep and versatile (lots of 2-4s), just lacking shot creators and another rim protector. They're in perfect position to make a 4 for 1 type of trade for a star (and have the draft picks to boot). Ainge has done a nice job of creating value in small moves. Jae Crowder >>> Rondo and he got a 1st. Zeller and a pick for renting cap space. They might not get the star they need, but they've done a really good job building that team up and down the organization.

Ainge is considering a trade for Al Horford. He wants a better low post scoring threat to go with his solid guards and forwards. He has 3-4 1st round draft picks to offer depending on where Minnesota finishes this year.

^ Interesting. Horford is terrific and probably undervalued, but he's also aging. But who's giving up a young star? Sacramento won't even discuss a Cousins deal, and if Blake's off the table that leaves ... ?

Stevens looks like he proved his worth. But it IS still the East, and while it's getting better, the Celtics would be like 7th in the West right now.

He's about to inherit an embarrassment of riches with those draft picks though. He should send a few gift baskets over to the Barclay's center.

Teams will give up a young star when they realize he isn't going to resign.

6th actually, but also 0 games behind Memphis who is in 5th (although Memphis has a slightly better winning % at .577 compared to Boston's .574) who just lost Marc Gasol for what appears to be the season.

Yes, the Gasol injury hurts Memphis, which greatly helps my fantasy chances. But injuries are injuries.. And the West is still harder, although, surprising, they are worse at the bottom.

Celtics will be a force if they draft smart. Maybe make a run at Durant in exchange for some picks?

The East sucks...so they are not very good. No one has a shot at beating the Cavs in the east playoffs. It is a cupcake, JV conference...and helps Lebron rack up on first loser trophies after losing to the Warriors (again) or the Spurs or Thunder in the finals this year.

Always thought he'd be a good replacement for Cal when he decides to ride off into the sunset. If any college could lure him from Boston, it might be Ky.. but I wouldn't like our chances.

My guess is that Stevens will be employed in the NBA as long as he desires. If you're successful, I'd guess that's a great gig.

I live in Southern Indiana and heard this a lot last year. I kept telling people he was winning games with a roster full of no names and has been in Boston, and they have 5 or 6 1st round picks in the next 3 years and a ton of salary cap room. He isn't coming to IU.

He's great and the Celtics got his back...basically their mantra is if he can win now, wait until he gets some real players. They are going the Warriors route with all the draft picks hoping one pans out.

grew up in la and i despised kobe bryant, kinda didn't have a choice. i thought we finally had it together with eric gorden, and was super happy with bledsoe got picked by clippers. too bad the management got rid of our best guards and replaced them with lance stephenson.

Reminds me of Delaware residents. I met thousands of peeps from all over the USA while serving 20 years in the Army, but nary a Delawarean.

Back on topic: Brad Stevens is an incredibly great coach. Consider this. Over a six-year college coaching career, Brad Stevens wins 4 consecutive Horizon League regular season championships, three Horizon Conference tournament championships and guides the Bulldogs to two back-to-back NCAA Men's Final Four appearances. His sole "down year" coincided with his second-to-last season at Butler, one considered a rebuilding year. At the end of the day, however, one should also not discount the "Butler Way" and Barry Collier's tremendous influence on the program, which continues today.

^ just read KenPom's blog on his continuity stat. He noted that one of those Butler teams had the highest continuity score in his database, which contributes to success. Point is that the more we're able to measure, the more it's hard to know a coach's contribution to success (Simmons and Haralabob had a similar point on the latest Bill Simmons podcast). I could have sworn Tubby was a miracle worker at one point, but then I realized his success at UK coincided with Pitino's leftovers and Chuck Hayes' influence.
