I know they probably want to keep this in the family but this is someone you have to take if you have the chance

It simply would NOT get any better than that. That’s in my humble opinion of course.

Stevens definitely not having much fun right now, and I’m a Celtic fan

Art Chansky is not a reliable source in regards to anything Duke. He is absolute epitome of a blind Carolina homer.

This is 110% tampering with my emotions. I can’t think of ANYTHING better than snagging Brad Stevens after the GOAT steps down..... But I’m ignoring the possibility until the time comes because I don’t like disappointment lmao

Love the thought but I just don't see it happening. I feel there will be some years of struggling after Coach K. Coach Stevens filling in that vacant role after Coach K retires would just be to good, and life cant be that good.

Capel or Stevens.
Do we want to mimic IU after Bobby Knight or Kansas after Roy Williams?

I think that in terms of best chances of maintaining the dynasty, picking Stevens is a no-brainer. Capel is definitely capable, I think we’d suffer through mediocrity before it went uphill or downhill. Coach K is a recruit magnet. I think Steven’s pedigree makes us a thousand more times desirable vs someone who has been handed down the family business.

That would be awesome but I think it’s going to go to capel, wojo, Hurley, or the extreme dark horse of Scheyer

Pretty simple it will be wojo or Steven's when the time comes probably in 2 years when Ks on paper contract ends in 2021. He"ll be 74 and no coach in ncaa has made it pass 74 except Boeheim and the only reason he still there is because his son is a freshman and plays meaningful mins

Kansas went from Roy to Bill Self which was a lateral move. IU and UCLA are the programs that did not and still have not been able to adequately fill the coaching position after Bobby Knight and John Wooden respectively save for a few seasons under Ben Howland, Larry Brown, and Mike Davis.

For Duke, Brad Stevens has to be choice #1, 2, and 3.

I know I tried to get @BeerPoisoning to start it but he won’t

Lmao I’m telling you if I spontaneously did that someone would be like:

Wow that sounds like JB, you questioned Coach K’s decision making once so why are you trolling trying to get rid of our coach. This guy is a joke. I stopped reading after you said the words next coach. K is the greatest of all time why isn’t he good enough for you? Are you secretly a Carolina fan? I watched you get dressed this morning and your underwear were a shade under royal blue so idk if you can be trusted. o_O

Nope. not doing it my guy lol

Maybe Stevens will take some Duke courses online to become a Duke guy.

But on a serious note.

Many think K has earned the right to pick his own successor, and I agree, but I would have to draw a line as the AD. If this info is accurate and K wanted to still go with a Duke guy who wasn’t NEARLY as accomplished as Stevens “on the college level only”, K would have to be overruled. I don’t think anyone would be upset with the AD in that situation either. Sometimes you have to prevent the King from burning down the Kingdom if it’s within your power to do so.

I think Coach K will be at Duke for at least 4 more years because it’s been brought up in other threads that his grandson is coming to Duke next year as a walk-on, so I don’t see him leaving Duke before his grandson graduates but that’s just my opinion.

This isn't necessarily true. I read an article several years ago and they asked K specifically about hiring "in the family". I don't remember his exact quote. However it was along the lines of Duke will hire the best candidate for the job. That doesn't mean it has to be in the family b/c he wasn't in the family when he got hired at Duke.

If someone like Brad Stevens is available. IMO, you have to take him.

Stephens one issue right now is Kyrie doesn’t fit with Hayward or the young talent on the Celtics.

I like Brad Stephens but he would have to be given time to attract recruits to his system. He plays defense all his Butler teams were hard nose defensive teams and team oriented offense. Both are what the Celtics are struggling with since the all star break.

I think the next coach will be from the Duke family tree but don’t know nessecarly if it would remain that way. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if UCLA hasn’t already been in contact

Yeah I couldn't care less if we keep it in the family or not, honestly. I want the best person for the job. If that's someone who is in the Duke family, then great; if not, well that's fine too.

My heart remembers Brad Stevens after that halfcourt heave. And they went back to the finals the next year. I mean Hayward is good but he's not THAT good.

I've never even thought about the possibility of Stevens becoming the next Duke coach. I always thought it might come from this list of candidates. Capel, Wojo,Collins, Hurley, Amaker, Battier, Grant Hill, J. Dawkins, Bilas, Laettner, Brey, Scheyer, Nate, Nolan, Carrawell or at 3 or 4 of our regular posters here DI. But Brad Stevens. Never occurred to me. :D OFC
