Have all the top posters from DI turned it down already? I think they have right of first refusal.
You’ll have to check with @skysdad on that. He’s the lead ‘fan’ representative for next coach....and really pushing for a few guys at DI.
You will know who they all are. When we lose or are playing bad they are the ones who know what we did wrong and how to correct it. Some of these guys are brilliant. Just follow the post of the in game thread that K-Ville starts every game. We have a lot of qualified candidates. OFC
I see no need to keep this in the family. Go after the best possible coach, whoever they are.
Coach K please don't renew your contract. We need Brad to get in as soon as he can. Thinking about the next 30 years now. It'll be perfect to have Brad when they change the NBA minimum age rule. We know that he can win with average talent on the college level. Hell he did in the NBA
I think there are people on this board who have legit held that opinion for the last few years.
I’m talking about when he first got there. Isaiah Thomas was his best player. No way they should have won that much. That talent was average and he made them look like an elite team
Absolutely agree. I remember when K was hired. I was in high school and people looked at me and laughed knowing that I was a Duke fan. It was in part because they did not know who he was and in part because of his last name. I do not get why people think K would want to name his replacement. The only legitimate reason that I can think of to keep everything in the family is if there are some things that need to be kept quite and continued. Hint, hint down the road at the hole. I get why some other fan bases do not want Duke to get the best possible coach.
They live their miserable lives hoping that Duke falls off a cliff after K is gone. They truly hate Duke more than they love their own teams. A bad hire is the most likely event that can truly damage an elite program. Think of it like picking the new CEO of Intel.
Stevens is a great coach. If Duke were to make a hire outside of the Coach K tree, he'd certainly be among a select few at the top of the list. But let's not pretend what he accomplished at Butler makes it some kind of certainty he's going to keep Duke rolling. The Duke job is a different animal....the microscope, recruiting, constant coverage, etc. There's nowhere to go and hide.....and there's nothing cozy about coaching at Duke.
Don't take this as some kind of suggestion I don't think he can do it. That's not what this is at all. I've just learned in life that the grass isn't always greener. I think guys who've spent time at Duke, recruited here and handled the daily pressures carry with them advantages, as well.

When it comes time and Brad is unavailable and we're stuck with someone else that's not half as good then you'll going to have that "I smell ish" look on your face. Coach K for 7 more years or Brad Stevens for 30. I'll take Brad for 30.
All good things have to come to an end. I'm thinking about the next 30 years not the next 5 years. I truly believe some of you grown men will cry when he retire smh

I said I hope he decides to leave at the right time. I didn't say fire him. Have to think about the future. I'm sure he wants the brand to stay on top for the next 30 years. Leave your business to someone that can carry the torch like you never left. Stevens is that guy.
IMO, K will coach as long as his health allows. Not the sort of guy who rides off into the sunset. A grandson will be a preferred walk on next season right?

Common sense would say you renew the greatest college coach of all times contract, if he wants to coach more.
No I can say that he doesn’t need to extend his contract. It’s only stupid to you because you probably worship Coach K. I don’t. If it’s Coach K or Brad Stevens in 2021-22 then give me Brad. Because he may not be available whenever Coach decides he want to retire.
No common sense would say if you have an elite coach that’s ready to come and you have an old coach that can wake up one day and say I can’t do this anymore then give me the young coach. I rather us not have a Bo Ryan situation. What do we lose by Coach K retiring and Brad Stevens coming in? Y’all really acting butt hurt over this hahaha
You’re assuming one of the two is going to be great, though. We don’t know how Stevens would do here.
