Not sure why Garrison would transfer unless he doesn’t want to play second fiddle next year. He has improved, is getting some playing time, and I hope he stays.

Kerr’s last chance to make money playing basketball in America, so he could try one more time to be a starter at St. John’s? Can’t imagine the NIL being much different for him. I’d like to have him back as long as he is OK with a backup role again. I really liked his spark off the bench and seems to be a great teammate.
Based on what we know, who is Garrison going to play second fiddle to? You have insight on who's going to come in and replace Williams? Moreno isn't playing in front of Garrison.

He’s soft, don’t care how much he weighs. I’ve watched him a ton. He’s soft man. He’ll get eaten alive if he plays a lot next season.
I dont totally disagree with you

But Garrison is soft as well

I do not say Moreno will definitely survive in SEC

But Garrison is not definitely better than him... I just want to compare Garrison with Moreno

Moreno has some ability and talent that Garrison does not have.

FFS post some BS speculation and then pull it down? Credibility is at a premium.
This is by far the worst era to be an athlete in when it comes to reporting .I don’t know if this is true or not but there are always reports on someone with “insider information” .

Now let’s say Garrison struggles in a big game now you’re going to have fans who wonders if he had one foot out of the door which led to him not being focused on the task at hand .

Garrison does need to hit the weight room. He has skinny arms but they are long which is good. He is skilled but gets pushed around too much. I hope he stays and puts in work to add some muscle. He could be a beast.

I’ve always assumed Garrison was getting between like 500k and 800k this season. We pivoted to him after Great’s huge NIL demands and got him to commit without even visiting so I assume it was a healthy number.

I think if you’re Pope you aren’t wanting to pay that again especially as a coaching staff that loves their analytics where Garrison really struggles.

Think Garrison can still get another decent payday as a “free agent”. McD AA pedigree with time at UK and multiple major conference seasons under his belt with a clean bill of health.
I hate to be this way, but I'm weary of kids dragging us around on if they want to play here.
This may all be conjecture but if it's not, I think we should insist on a decision early in the transfer portal process. We can't be waiting around for Garrison.
He's a good player but it's not like we can't do as well if not better in the portal.

I don’t think the Garrison decision will take that long. He won’t even be of the level to think he can waste everyone’s time with the pre draft process that can hold decisions up unnecessarily.

I wonder if it will get to the point of signing players to multi year contracts, similar to the nba, to keep from this revolving door of players every year
You can already sign them to long term contracts. But you cannot tie it the school.

They are being paid for their personal name, image or likeness.

The schools made that money for years. Now it’s the player’s turn.

If I sign Travis Perry to advertise and give him a two year contract then I have to pay him no matter where he goes to school or even if he drops out.

I think Moreno is not worse than Garrison as of now... Moreno has higher basketball IQ, also bigger size and more better touch around basket
I doubt he(Moreno) will be ready for the physicality of the SEC in the role of a starter next year. Garrison
isn't a world beater on that front either but he is/will be more physical than a true frosh.

I going to take what may hit many as a popular opinion on all this.
I go back to several years ago when Michigan had a very good team and its coach at that time Bill Frieder (spelling) I believe was looking at the Arizona St coaching position when the AD fired him saying "There will be a Michigan man on my bench" and hired Steve Fischer to finish the season.
I loved that myself.
Same thing here. If this is true and a player posted he is going to transfer, then that tells me his heart is not into it and is only our for himself and as Bob Knight once said, :Bench, meet ***, *** meet bench"

I hope all this is BS. But if true, then why wait, leave now.
The sweet part of the freider/fischer story: Freider was fired right before the tournament started, and Fischer took the 1 or 2 seed that they'd earned during the season and parlayed it into a national title run. AD was retired Michigan football coaching legend Bo Schembechlar (sp)

All I’ve heard is that UK is prioritizing a big and a pg in the portal. I read it on here and twitter, so take that for what it’s worth.

I’m not privy to the coaching staff’s vision, so I don’t know if the big will be an expected starter or Garrison will start.

It’s hard to believe that Garrison or Kerr wouldn’t start over freshmen unless they were absolute studs. They know Pope’s system, how to run it, and what he expects. The days of just rolling the ball out and playing are over. We’ve already seen with Pope that there’s plenty of PT to go around.

We will prob recruit another portal starting pg and Kerr no way start

As for Acaden and Jasper, they are good enough to get rotation minutes so i think there will be limited room for Kerr

Matt Jones was hinting yesterday that Kerr may transfer to Saint John’s. I would hate to see that as I think our fanbase really appreciates Kerr and deserves to see him for a full season. Not sure what his reasoning would be either, as he has spoken glowingly of UK since coming here.
That would kinda suck imo. I like Kerr’s moxy and he seems to really had bought into UK as a whole. I think he can be a key part to a F4 team.

But from his perspective I can understand it. We have a couple highly rated guards coming in and Perry…and Noah…and we are likely to go after a top upperclassman transfer guard to be the starter.

I think Kerr would kill it in RickPs system though in a more finesse conference with less conference strength too to bottom

If Garrison and Kriisa decide to enter the portal and leave, what does that say about building a program here with players wanting to play for the name on the front of the jersey ?? To my view, we need to be realistic, the VAST, VAST MAJORITY of players are concerned about themselves, their minutes, and how much money they can make. It is only the fans who consistently are all about the name on the front of the jersey. This is just the way it is and there's no reason to pretend otherwise.

It is only in rare cases that a program can be built to rely on player and roster continuity, it seems to me. College programs are now a ONE-YEAR proposition and coaches need to decide how to build the best roster each off-season. It seems that simple to me. Pitino's point about de-emphasizing the recruitment of high school talent makes a lot of sense to me ... he's right !!

Someone needs to address the transfer rule. It is insane that these kids are swapping schools every year.
100% and the straw man argument of if coaches can” is ignorant. Coaches don’t change schools 4 times in 5 years. They also sign multi year contracts with buyouts where if a school hires them away, they usually have to pay a buyout.

They need to go back to 1 free transfer and a grad transfer. If you want to transfer a second time in undergrad then you sit a year. But still have 5 years to play 4

Or simplify it and say 2 transfers for 5 years. If you use 2 in undergrad then you don’t get a free grad transfer. You can play as a grad student at the same school you used your 2nd transfer to or you can do grad school wherever you want as a non athlete aka a STUDENT

the only kids that value the UK name are home grown kids, and even that isn't as true as it used to be as evidenced by Reed sporting an Arkansas shirt

He really hasn't played against a
guy his size very much at least in HS.
I like the kid, he will good at some point.
However, I am not counting on him to be our man in the middle next year unless he bulks up and really I mean adds muscle.

Is this something that Brandon posted and deleted? If not, how did the person tweeting about this know about it? Sounds like Brandon is a problem if this kind of conversation is happening at this point in the season, if true.

I don't see freshman Moreno beating him out either. If they don't do something with the transfer rule collage basketball will be joke.

Yup. They are paid employees and they are here for the money. That doesn't mean they don't want to do well and win though. Q

Well, if rumors are true, i think it could go for any player out there in college division level 1 athletics nowadays. No player would be necessarily immune to this kind of talk in February.

That said, I think Garrison's game is not that entirely far off, making some key adjustments, and I've got to think and know that Pope's staff is on it, from him stepping up his game to the next level. I'd like to see him back next year with Oweh, both improved. Oweh could be a first team all American with his motor next year. I love his game. Yes. I'm in for that. I hope they both do come back.

But it is February. Interesting, noted.

Garrison would be the guy next year why would he transfer? Moreno isn’t going to be ready imo.

I’m thinking the same with Kerr. I doubt Lewis or Jasper beat out a 6th year senior. Hell Kerr was our leading assist guy when he was healthy. Even if they did Haven’t we learned our lesson yet? I don’t want to go into the tournament with freshmen guards only.
