I'm not sure if any of you have paid any real attention to Brandon while he is in the game, but I have noticed something about this guy that is quite amazing. Brandon Maye knows how to read the offense like I've never seen. If you watch him before the snap, he almost ALWAYS moves right to where the ball is heading. I find it quite interesting how someone can be so knowledgeable of reading offenses, yet he is not starting. Are the coaches concerned with his physicality? I am somewhat baffled by this. We are hurting, bad, on our rush defense (someone just posted we were 99th in rushing defense). Why in the hell is this guy not starting? I used to play linebacker and to be totally honest, from what I've seen on the field, this guy should be our number 1 right now.

if they didn't get kicked of for some criminal or at least questionable activity, DON'T COUNT ON THEM. if they could play, they would stay where they are. you can always "hep" a kid grow as a young man, but you can't teach a ***** to tackle. just sayin'........................

my opinion didn't change .... he was to easily blocked or tied up ... had difficulty getting off the block .... I will say he looks kinda fast but I didn't really see the speed helping a lot ... kinda dissappointing in my book

He is turrible!!!! We don't have a middle linebacker on the team that is worth a flip right now.

he's slower than everyone else. late, and if the back beats him to the corner on a run he isn't catching him.

I was told Maye was walking around campus in a boot (as in ankle sprain) last week. We may not have seen what he is really capable of just yet.

I got caught up in it a bit too, but a thought, did any of us actually see him play a snap as a clemson lb (i know i sure as hell didnt). Now he seems to be a little overhyped and in hindsight i guess swe acted a little like um on signing day only to be disappointed during the season. All that said, i hoping this is just a adjustment period and he comes on strong from here on out.

It's quite simple, really. It's because he's not very good. Any more questions? He is very slow reacting to the ball and he is not the least bit physical. He's never where he needs to be. He would not see the field at some SEC schools.

I agree, he is a bit slow and he also seems a little squeamish to make a hit. But are you telling me that our other LBs are getting the job done? Are they that much better? The fact is, this kid can read the offense all day and he is smart. I'mpositive I would rather havesomeone in the game who can command the defense, ratherthan someone who doesn't know what the 17 is going on.

Its just me. Next time you see him in the game, watch him. I'm telling you, he walks right to where the ball is going. </p>

I watched him in person at memphis and he was absolutely terrible that day. He may leanthe right way before theplay starts but that doesn't help him because everything he does after that is just bad. Yes, I am saying the other guys are doing better. He's super soft.He doesn't have a linebacker's mentality. He just doesn't have it. He's a fifth year senior and he still is never in position to make a play. I have watched him and everything you are saying about him is just totally false.

I realize it's the ACC and not the SEC but still. He should at least be serviceable in the SEC, especially for a team that lost its top 2 LBs from last year.

I played MLB, and wasnt too bad at it myself. With that said, I disagree with you. I think he can read an offense pretty damn well.

He played a bunch of snaps in the Auburn game and did not record one tackle. The guy who started this thread is nothing short of a moron.

you do realize that, correct?

I watched him carefully for two games and all I've seen is him getting blocked into oblivion. Of course, I didn't play MLB so what do I know?

in a long time. Im not trying to say "I know all because I played MLB". I'm just saying that as a MLB, being able to read the offense is 50% of your job. He has that down. Wasn't he hurt last year? Think he may be a little gun shy? Perhaps sticking him in more and more situations will get the guy to snap out of it. Coming back from an injury is, for the most part, mental. Players are afraid of injuring themselves again. Ask any player who has ever suffered an injury and they will tell you the same.

The guy has over 200 tackles in a couple of seasons while playingin the ACC. I know it's the ACC, but that is certainly something to hang your hat on. He has what it takes, it is the defensive coaches job to coach him up and get it back out of him. Flame all you want, but that is one of the biggest challenges in coaching football. See Relf, for example.
